Description:

1988 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series

1988 Mercedes-Benz 300e. W-124 body. Decent shape for the age and mileage. The interior is decent for the age. Dashboard has no cracks. The factory paint still has decent clear coat. (On most w124's I've seen at this price point, the hood, roof, and trunk lid would have faded or peeling clear coat). As you can see in the pics, it has rust around the jack lift points. However, I've been told they sell inexpensive replacement panels for those sections, because it was a common issue with these cars. It does NOT mean that the rest of the car is rusted out! I took a pic of the worst jack hole. The other ones are NOT as bad.
The frame, floor pans, trunk pan, and the body panels are in very good shape, minus some tiny surface bubbles that you can see in the pics. This car spent a good portion of its time in states that do not salt, like Florida and (I think) some western state too.
It has nice alloy wheels and the tires have good tread. Has spare tire, jack, master key, aftermarket heated seats and an aftermarket radio w/remote.
Work that I have done to it includes:
- Replaced the serp belt tensioner- Replaced the spark plugs with the correct NON-resistor spark plugs that were factory recommended back in 1988- New plug wires. It could probably use a new cap and rotor, but I didn't get around to that- New valve cover gasket- New coolant bypass hose- Oil changed
Work done by previous owner:
- New water pump and thermostat- New radiator- New head gasket- Wheels and tires
The car could use some TLC, but I have started the auction at a very very low price to accommodate that. That said, I would prefer this car go to someone who is familiar with working on the w124, as that is the kind of buyer who would be in the best position to restore this car. This would be a great father and son project for a presentable weekend cruiser!
It runs and drives but is not quite road worthy yet in my opinion, as it has small little things here and there. For example, it is missing the antenna mast. Also, the odo had broken at around 114k miles. When the previous owner bought the car, he guessed and told the dmv clerk that the mileage was around 180k. So, that will probably show up on the carfax. When he sold the car to me, he said that the actual mileage is probably a lot lower than that. He just wanted to be "on the safe side" when he was at the dmv.
I fully encourage you to look at the car, or ask questions at the very least, BEFORE you bid. Do not assume anything.
If you win the auction, you are committing to buy it. So, that is not the time to decide if you want the car or not.Too many people on eBay do not understand that. And that is not fair to me or the other bidders. Because of that, there will be a non-refundable deposit required if you win the auction, no exceptions.
Thanks for looking!
P.S. For the right price, I reserve the right to end the auction early.
