1981 Mercedes 240 diesel 185Kmi, straight, reliable start, runs well need TLC
1981 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series
The car starts and runs reliably. As you can see it has straight body. Some work we have had done over the years include: new suspension, new air conditioning system, new steering box, new power steering pump, new hood liner, new Michelin Defender tires (within the last few years), new aftermarket HD radio, newish hubcaps - one got severely dented and is therefore missing.
Overall the car needs some TLC. Trying to be 100% transparent, here are all known flaws that you might not see from the photos: passenger seatbelt doesn't retract/work properly, driver's seat has a rip, headliner "piping" around the doors has come off, antenna no longer auto retracts (it stays up and provides reception), glove box door is slightly wonky/loose but does stay closed, the doors occasionally need to be "helped/pushed" closed to latch properly, the fuel gage does not work properly (I have been using the odometer as my fuel gage for some time). It can struggle with steep hills when cold but this could be typical of the 240d's of this age. Needs an alignment. Central locking system (a hydraulic system!) no longer works so I have relied on the manual approach for years. The trunk's rear weatherstripping seal needs to be replaced/fixed. I have learned that many of these idiosyncrasies are typical of the a W123 of this vintage. The Car sold as-is without warranty or guarantee. Perfect for a hobbyist or collector.
I had to relist this because of the top bidder bowing out of the last auction prematurely leaving the number two bidder on the hook when they had changed their mind. They requested that I then let them decline their winning bid, which I did.
Moving to Germany and need to sell the car in the next couple of months.
