Description:
1980 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series
This is the top of the line Mercedes 300TD from 1980 touring class wagon. Built with steel, strengthened steel, and stainless steel, even the engine is solid steel except for the aluminum valve cover. Mercedes had a policy of not using timing belts because they tended to wear and needed to be replaced. Instead they used a double stainless steel timing chain. When new, there was a year long waiting list to buy one. John Lennon was one of the first buyers and had his shipped to 1 Apple Plaza in New York City. He was often seen driving around NYC with his musical equipment in the back.
Comes with the OM617 diesel engine known to go for over 1 million miles and getting between 25-30 mpg. You can run diesel, bio-diesel, or the new clean burning renewable diesel found at Union 76 stations, or a combination of all of them. This is the same engine that people used to run off of french fry grease. It is paired with a very robust automatic 4 speed transmission.
All original, she comes with the SLS (Self Leveling Suspension) which allows you to haul heavy loads while maintaining stability. In California and most states, she will never need to be smog checked
I am a little old school in that I believe the best transaction will be if the buyer sees and test drives the wagon in person. To set up a test drive, please call 310 418-9293. It is always nice to buy a car that you will know will go up in value. Haggerty's Valuation puts a value on it of $29,000 in excellent condition and will insure it for that amount
