Description:

1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL SL

1987 Mercedes 560SL.77,234 miles. Bring a trailer.

Many consider this the peak of German car engineering, backwhen everything was mechanical.Beautiful convertible with soft top and hard top. Relatively low mileage. Good condition for the age, nonsmoking owners, but not without some issues. It hasnot been started or driven in over a year. The battery is dead. It wasrunning well, then it started to occasionally stall on some corners, might be anelectrical issue, but I don’t know and I’m not a mechanic.

The Good:

·Tons of charm.

·All original as far as I know, exceptthe stereo and small, typical replacements for driving over the years. See photos.I can’t guarantee 100% all parts are original because I wouldn’t knowthe difference, but I am pretty sure minimal replacements have ever been made.

·Comfortable, luxury leather with minimal damage. See photos for some scuffing on driverseat, a small split starting on passenger seat, and small splits in the upperdash by windshield. It is a little musty, but I wipe it down when I can. Mightneed some kind of treatment. Definitelyneeds detailing. Should clean up reallywell if done by a pro that can repair the scuffs and splits.

·Nonsmoking, no burns, never rained in, noweird smells. Smells like an old Mercedes. I’m told by a pro that it smells as it shouldwith the old horsehair seats. Powerwindows worked when last driven. Carpetlooks pretty great, always used floor mats.Floor mats need shampoo, but they are original and decent condition. See photos.

·No water damage. It spent most of its life in a garage and recent years under my carport. Hard top and interior cabin still seem to be watertightwith hard top on. Door seals are intact. German engineering was made to last!

·Automatic transmission worked well uponlast drive. You have to pull the shifterabout ¼” past the desired position but it has always been that way and showedno signs of getting looser.

·Great, heavy, low, fast, old-school sportscar with an impressive V8 engine. The weight of these old metal cars matches the high horsepower, and it feelsbetter than modern lightweight fiberglass cars.

·Low mileage for 1987.

·Driven gently.I don’t think it has ever been wrecked at all, but I don’t know theoriginal owner (an old lady in Florida named Irma, then my brother, then shippedto me in Arkansas). The Florida titleshowed those 2 owners in Florida, but when I brought it to Arkansas, they mademe replace the title with an AR title that only shows me and that is all Ihave.

·Title is clean, in my name, and ready to sign overupon receiving the funds and signing the AR bill of sale that I have printedand ready to fill out.

·I have some original manuals including somemaintenance history from the original owner. My brother didn’t log his maintenance but he treated the car seriouslyand well.

·Classic silver gray and chrome.

The Bad:

·Two small tears in soft top – appx 3 inchlong slit over both doors from pushing down too hard when folding the soft topone time. It says on instructions not topush hard, but I got annoyed and pushed. The soft top operates, but, frankly, it was still too frustrating for meto use regularly. Maybe it could bestitched or patched, but the soft top seems pretty dry and brittle. AS IS it would be best for parking in a garagewhere you can either leave the hard top on or off for long periods. Looks better with top down or with the hardtop anyway. The plastic soft top windowis ok. The wrench for the hard top isincluded.

·Small body dents and paint chips over driverside rear tire from kids playing in garage.

·Metal wheels built to last but show some wear. Might scrub off, not sure. We scrubbed a little, but not professionaldetailing. See photos.

·Small rust patch under the “560 SL” lettering onback, see photos. The other letteringhas some corner dirt but that should come out with deeper cleaning.

·Trunk top might have a little staining. We scrubbed it and it still has some staining, but looks isolated to the trunk (see photos).Again, I am guessing someone that knows how to detail a car properly canprobably remedy some of these things.See photos for current condition. No trickery in the photos. I wantto be honest about the condition, and I know it needs some attention. That’s why there is no reserve.

·Broken flip down visor. There are some small leaves in the hard top back window.

·Missing one piece of exterior trim infront of driver door.

·Needs new tires.

·It hasn’t been started or driven for over ayear, so might require some rubber replacements and repairs to get runningproperly.

·I don’t know if the car has A/C or not. I don’t recall ever using it even when mybrother had it in Florida. I’m not surethese cars even had A/C. See photos.

·Stereo doesn’t work. It was a 90’s cd player professionallyinstalled with power amp and speakers, but it has never worked for me - probablyshould all be removed and replaced except maybe the Alpine speakers. All are included.

The Ugly:

·Nada – this car makes anyone look pretty.

Sold strictly AS IS no refunds. I tried to report all the issues I know of,but I’m no mechanic. I don’t have anyidea if it has air bags or other old stuff. If I was a mechanic, I would probably keep it and fix it myself, becauseits fun to drive and looks great.Probably needs a couple to a few thousand $ to make it a real driver, but it should be a good candidate to fix up and drive. It was running before I got too sidetrackedwith kids (it only has 2 seats, no backseat) and too busy with work to keep upwith it.

Please don’t ask me to try to jumpstart the car unless youare willing to up the bidding by $1,000 and have a local person to come do it. As I said, if I wanted to mess around withthis car, knew how to fix it, and had time, I would keep it. I need the space and I have an old Fordpickup that I am already working on.

Bring a trailer.Driveway is level, about 3 car lengths into carport including theMercedes. Street is not busy and hasplenty of outlets, slopes downhill and we are in the middle of the hill withlong straight stretch in front perpendicular to driveway. Car neutral and brakes are functional. Tires are warped but not dead. It is pushable. There is a Mercedes repair shop, Shuler Autohaus, nearby if you want to have it towed there after purchase.

The same car recently sold on Ebay for $14,800in better condition but with double the miles on the motor. I tried to price mine accordingly tomake room for pickup, repairs, and for you to still potentially profit or enjoydriving a classic.
