Description:

1985 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series

This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280TE is a European-market example that was imported to the US and spent time in Texas before it was acquired. Finished in Light Ivory over Palomino MB-Tex upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.8-liter M110 inline-six linked with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes heated front seats, rear-facing third-row seats, automatic climate control, a manual sunroof, power windows, and anti-lock brakes. Following the seller’s acquisition, European-specification lights were fitted along with a cargo area Coco floor mat, and work performed in February 2022 included an oil change and replacing the transmission fluid and filter. This W123 is now offered with service records, spare and removed parts, a clean Carfax report, and a Pennsylvania title in the my name. The car was ordered in Light Ivory (623), and it is believed that during prior ownership the right-rear quarter was repainted. Equipment includes European-specification bumpers, a rear fog light, and chrome roof rails, and European-specification headlights were added following the my acquisition. Paintless dent removal was performed in December 2019, though outlying dings are noted on the doors along with a crease on the rear bumper, and bubbling is noted around the antenna. The 14″ Bundt alloy wheels were refinished during prior ownership and are fitted with Michelin Defender tires. The car retains a self-leveling rear suspension, and the rear accumulators were replaced under previous ownership in 2014. The car is also equipped with anti-lock brakes, components of which were replaced during prior ownership. The interior features Palomino MB-Tex upholstery on the front, middle, and rear-facing third-row seats. Coco Mats protect the color-coordinated carpets, and Zebrano wood trim accents the dash and center stack. Amenities include a Bluetooth-capable Continental stereo, heated front seats, power windows, a manual sunroof, and automatic climate controls. The C-pillar trim is said to be peeling while the D-pillar trim has been removed, and the front seatback upholstery was replaced during prior ownership but shows separation on the sides. Additional flaws include cracks in the dashboard and stains on the rear seat upholstery, and the cruise control and air-conditioning systems do not work. The four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 150-mph speedometer and a six-digit mechanical odometer reading 124k miles, around 2,500 of which are said to have been added under current ownership. The speedometer was replaced during prior ownership, and total mileage is unknown. The 2.8-liter M110 inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and was factory rated at 180 horsepower. Service in December 2019 by Kraft German Auto of Brooklyn, New York included replacement of the hood insulation, alternator, and valve cover gasket. The oil was changed in February 2022. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission, which was resealed in 2009. The shifter bushing in December 2019, and the fluid, filter, and gasket were replaced in 2022. Additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery below.Service records are also included in the sale along with literature.
