This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL is finished in its original silver over red leather and powered by a 4.5-liter V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car has resided in California for much of its life and was acquired in 2014. Equipment includes a black soft top, electric windows, automatic climate control, a factory cassette deck, and an aftermarket Bluetooth module. This 450SL shows only 90k miles and is offered with a removable hard top, a tool roll, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean California title.
The car wears its completely original Astral Silver (735) with red pinstriping and features fog lamps and a black soft top that can be seen raised and lowered in the gallery below. A color-matched hardtop is included in the sale.
Stock 14″ steel wheels wear color-keyed covers and 195/70 Pirelli P4 tires. The brake rotors at each corner and the front pads were replaced at 83k miles.
The cabin is upholstered in its original RARE red leather with matching carpets and interior plastics. Amenities include electric windows, automatic climate control, a Becker Mexico cassette player, and an aftermarket Bluetooth module. Minor splits near the seams are present on the headrests, wear and discoloration is evident on the center armrest and dashboard, and a tear can be seen at the bottom of the driver’s seat.

A padded four-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an integrated clock along with gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 90k miles, of which approximately 11k have been added during ownership
The 4.5-liter V8 was factory-rated 180 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque when new. Annual oil changes have been carried out and the car has required very little unscheduled maintainance and has been very reliable. Some light surface oxidation is shown under the windshield washer tank, which leaked prior. It can be scour padded off and has no rot or rust. Incredibly rust free and super clean body and chassis.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission that received a fluid change and a new pan gasket at 83k miles. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery below.Manufacturer’s literature is included in the sale.
