1989 Mercedes-Benz 300TE

VIN# WDBEA9005KF114634 A great, enjoyable car that owes us nothing is now offered to someone who has the hours to put into it. After comparing the time to do a decent repaint and repair multiple minor issues we reluctantly decided to move to a W211 wagon that needed nothing. IF you are just looking for transportation stop now as this is not a car for you. We have transferred the plate to the "new" wagon but it can be driven in our subdivision. We have 9 classic / old cars and this one would be way low on the restoration priority list. Being a CIS injected car it cannot sit idle for very long let alone stored without expensive consequences so it must go.
The GOOD:
A strong engine that had the timing chain with guides, water pump, valve stem seals, injectors and main seals replaced maybe 30K miles ago.
Full exhaust system including cat 20K ago.
A new Bosch fuel pump less than 2K ago
European M-B headlights with finisher panels below
Decent M-B Tex interior; windows & sunroof all work and the tunes were upgraded
Ice cold A/C*
1999 CLK320 forged 16" alloys (5)
Manuals and extensive collection of spares included
Roof rack cross bars
Solid southern car with no under body rust at all
Seating for 7 adults (only kids in the back of a W211....) and replaced the rear tailgate lift cylinders
The not so good:
Leaking timing chain cover because I did not remove the head when I replaced all the guides.
Oil seal on the distributor shaft failing allowing a mist into the cap that will make it miss under load (new one in glove box).
Tranny has the typical shift maladies that can be adjusted via driving style or shift it manually
Self Leveling Suspension hose replaced with a non-Mercedes spec hose and it makes noise; especially when cold! Suspension works perfectly.
Body is at best a 30 footer with several panels repainted over the years, multiple scratches, minor dents and the original paint beginning to flake away...... and a small rust hole under the right rear quarter window.
Odometer hasn't worked in 10 years hence the "about" on mileage statements; probably nearer to 280K miles
A/C is on or off with a switch on the console; it will freeze you out if you do not occasionally click it off
Electric radiator fan died (a good used one comes with it)
It's an old car that will still do 120.... and is a blast to drive; but not on the tires it has now....
Again, a fun to drive semi-collectible car but only for those familiar with some basic wrenching experience as to pay someone labor to do all the little jobs this needs would be astronomical.
