1976 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 240D

It was a dark and stormy night when I woke up and came to my senses. I own a 1976 W115 Mercedes 240Dand decided that the time had come to let a new owner enjoy her as much as I have. So here I am, writing a description of this car for a posting on Ebay. You see, recently I was diagnosed with a rare lung disease called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, or IPF. Since IPF is incurable and has a rather poor prognosis, I have made a decision to simplify my life.

Prior to my health situation, my intention was to put the car in concours condition and show it at MBCA (Mercedes-Benz Club of America) events. Although that hasn't been possible, last year the car was awarded the Silver Star Certificate by the MBCA to recognize the preservation of originality and maintenance of functionality. The judge for the award was the MBCA National Concours Chair. The Silver Star grill badge is visible in photos of the car and I also included a photo of the Silver Star certificate which will be included with the car.

One of the requirements of the Silver Star award is that the car must be in original condition except for normal maintenance items and safety upgrades. The paint on this car looked so good the judge was suspicious that it had been repainted. However, he could not find any evidence of a repaint, i.e., paint on trim, etc., and he decided it must be original. Personally, I believe the car has had a very high quality and expensive repaint, but I'm certainly not an expert!

After the car received the Silver Star award, I decided to replace the original series glow plugs with parallel plugs. The parallel glow plugs enable the car to start much quicker and became standard on Mercedes diesels built beginning in 1980. The original glow plugs will be included with the car and, If the buyer wishes, I will re-install them to put the car back in original condition.

Recently I've replaced front and rear shock absorbers with new Bilstein shocks, replaced both fuel filters, changed the oil and filter, replaced the battery with a new Bosch AGM battery, did a Diesel Purge, and had the front end aligned. The car passed the Texas vehicle safety inspection this spring and it drives very well!

As far as I know, there are only three items that don't work correctly. The clock, the trip odometer, and the power door locks. I bought new diaphragms for the door lock actuators and will include these with the car plus instructions for replacing them. It is not a difficult job. Also, the carpet on the driver's side is worn near the accelerator pedal, but this isn't visible in the photos. The tool kit is with the car, but the lug nut wrench is missing.

There was a custom car cover with the car when I bought it which somewhat explains the excellent condition of the paint. The cover will be in the trunk.

I have described the condition of the car to the best of my ability, but I am not an automotive technician. I strongly recommend an interested buyer have the car inspected prior to making a bid.Once the bidding is over and the reserve has been met, the high bidder has bought the car. No inspections will be allowed at this point!

I have attached 24 photos of the car but have lots more. Let me know and I will be happy to send them. Good luck bidding!
