1988 Mercedes-Benz 190-Series

Legendary Mercedes-Benz 5 cylinder diesel sedan. These things go for 1,000,000+ miles--this one is barely broken in.
I bought it for a summer road trip. I drove it from Twin Falls, ID area to Santa Fe, NM where I spent the month of June then Phoenix, Vegas, and back to Twin Falls. It averaged 40 mpg on the highway and about 30 around town. Tires are in great shape, seats are in respectable shape, and it runs well.
I did some maintenance while I had it including an oil change, replacing a leaky injector line, topping up all the fluids, etc. As near as I can tell, it doesn't use oil, have any major leaks, or need any immediate work. I'd drive it on the same road trip again next week.
It does have a rebuilt title from a fender bender that bent the hood. The hood was repaired and the cooling system was replaced by the previous owner.
Like most MB's of this era, its AC is fickle. It works but occasionally freezes up. It likely needs a new controller which costs around $100 on eBay. If I were holding on to it, I would put in new struts and consider doing motor mounts and a brake flush in the next year or so. The sunroof doesn't slide back but does pop up. The two back windows need motors. The clear coat is gone on the top part of the car (except for the hood which has new paint). I am selling it because I am a graduate student on the other side of the country in a big city and only needed a car for the summer road trip.
This would make a great first car (it is reliable, but can't get out of its own way...), a comfortable commuter, or, if you insist, a great transplant motor for a project (small fortunes can be made parting out the rest of the car).
