Description:

1987 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series 560SEC

We purchased(rescued..) this gorgeous car in February from a distressed seller, who simply could not continue to pay for the needed repairs. After spending over $2,500 on it at the mechanic's shop, he made a decision to sell. When we arrived to see the car, I was horrified to see that the rims were spray painted BLACK!! Who would do this to a classic such as this car is?? The interior was filthy and a couple of pieces of carpeting were missing. It was a pitiful mess.
The car starts each and every time and drives without incident. There is one vacuum leak that was NOT fixed. There were hoses that were fixed but the job could not be completed because of lack of continued funds from the previous owner. The previous owner broke the key in the ignition(unfortunate accident) and so spent 600 dollars to put in a new housing. Because of this fact, the car does not have the original key which locks the doors. I've kept it in the garage since owning it and have not driven it outside of my community, so I decided not to purchase a key because of the decision to sell. Mercedes charges 50 dollars with title in hand in your name to give you a replacement which will then allow you to lock. There is a very slight lift in the trunk on the right side. It's near the hinge. Previous owner said that there was something in the way when he closed the trunk, and the hinge will probably need replacing in order for it to lay perfectly flat once again. You, as the expert will know exactly how to repair, remedy and fix all that I am listing here. I simply cannot afford all of the time that this takes to do these repairs. I took about 3 weeks when I first got the car to remove black paint that was sprayed on the rims. I used about 4 cans of paint remover. Unbelievable that someone would paint over those rims. He said he did it to cover up the clear coat that was peeling. So, the rims are back to original. They aren't anywhere near perfect, but can probably be further restored if you want to take the time.
I also took quite some time putting back a couple of carpet pieces in the interior that had been removed. I cleaned everything and it looks remarkably better than when I first got it. I took it back to the shop that worked on it last, and showed it to the owner. He said it looks 100 times better than when he'd last seen it. I took that as a compliment.
The headliner is in excellent shape. Amazingly there is no sagging or rips.
All gauges work, with the exception of the clock and tachometer.Spare tire is no good, but is in the trunk on it's rim. There is a Sony stereo system with a Kenwood amp in the trunk and a disc changer. The wood console does have cracks. The hood pad is brittle and missing in some areas and if I were to keep this beautiful car I would replace it.
The dash is perfect, for the exception of one small hairline crack on the left side, which is extremely difficult to detect. The antenna is missing it's little ring that hold it in place. You should know exactly how to fix this. The right person can bring this car back up rather easily and quickly. The body is gorgeous as you can see by the pictures and video.
I already have a 1999 Chevy Lumina that runs. It was my mother's so it holds sentimental value and I want to keep it, so I recently purchased new tires for it, and fixed the radiator as well as the A/C.
I must find a new home for the Mercedes because as much as I love the car, I know nothing about it, and want it to go to an aficionado who has the expertise and capabilities financially to take care of it appropriately.

Sunroof opens, closes and tilts.Power windows ALL work.Seat belt presenters both work as they should.Wiper reservoir needs replacing. Does NOT hold water.Rear view mirror plastic backing is hairline cracked but mirror is intact. I need to list these details so as not to get an 'item not as described' strike. And, because this car deserves to be spoken about in length.
The trunk, hood, roof and sides are not oxidized. There is some clear coat peeling on the top left(driver's side) front panel. Buffing will more than likely restore this exterior, but as you can see from the photos, without close inspection it looks very, very good.
The driver's seat has a big chunk out which photo will clearly show, and the passenger seat has a couple of ripped seams. This is a very rare color combination. Your upholsterer can fix or try to replace the seats. I have no idea how to do that.
History can be found on the carfax.
Apparently, this beauty has had 7 owners. I just learned about that when you did, from the information provided in my listing. That must be why the score is 20. It's never been in an accident. So...that's great.
