Mercedes 300 TD Wagon 2nd Owner
1985 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series
This car runs today just like the day I bought it from the original owner in 1995. It's not a show car but it is a beautiful and efficient daily driver that will bring smiles to you and to and those who see it. It starts and runs beautifully and will serve for years to come. I would feel perfectly comfortable jumping in this car and driving it across the country. It has 282,700 on the odometer and I have put 183,000 of those miles on it. It is fast, shifts smoothly, and handles great. This is the last year of the w123 series. It is geared a little lower than all of its predecessors (78 - 84) and is considered the year to have. All the vacuum and electrics work, the brakes are fine, and the tires (studded snows all four) are almost new. The suspension is excellent - the front shocks are relatively new and the rear hydraulic self-leveling system is 100% functional. It has (very) rare European bumpers and headlights. The wheels were professionally repainted not that long ago, and the body and paint are excellent. It has leather interior and the driver's seat was rebuilt and has a replacement leather seat cover. The engine drips a little oil when it is parked and it is missing a hood spring. There is a quarter-size rust spot beneath the rear window and a couple surface things, the corners of the front valence and a place inside the rear driver's side door. It is a Colorado car, however, so it does not have real structural corrosion. The car has had oil and filter change every 3000, air and fuel filters every 10,000 and valve adjust every 15,000. It runs incredibly well, strong and fast. The vacuum system is completely tight, and everything works.

One other thing, the fitting at the end of the rear crossbar of the roof rack is broken at the joint to the bar itself but the whole thing stays in place by compression. I have not tried to permanently fix it but it has been that way since about 1998 and it has never really bothered me. Maybe epoxy?

One last (I think) thing I should add about the car. Back in the late 90's a car turned in front of me and I hit that car in its side. The front of my car had to be repaired. After all was said and done my mechanic told me that if he didn't know it, he would not be able to tell any work of that sort was done. The only real tell is that there is no longer a data plate.
