Description:
1970 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
In 1963 Mercedes-Benz unveiled the latest iteration of the SL class in the form of a stylish two-seat convertible. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the prominent three-pointed Mercedes emblem the W 113 bears, a nod to the legendary 300SL. Beyond the star, chrome trim defines the grille opening, shapes the headlight bezels and accents the vehicle's roadster-inspired body. Most notable of course is the "pagoda" removable hardtop, named for its concave shape. Aluminum construction has been utilized in the deck lid, door skins, hood, and tonneau cover to reduce weight. This Benz came equipped from the factory with a 2,778cc (2.8L) M130 inline-six cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection, automatic transmission, power disc brakes, power steering, AM/FM radio, and A/C. Much like other "pagodas" destined for the North American market, sealed beam bulb headlights and amber turn signal lenses were fitted to meet US regulations. The 280SL you see here was repainted in the factory correct Light Beige and shows well. Factory spot welds are present on both inner fenders attesting to the originality of the vehicle. Moving on to the leather interior, you'll find it to be in presentable condition, albeit a little sun-faded. There are no tears in the seats or door panels. An original owner's manual is also available to go with the vehicle so drop the top and hit the road in classic Mercedes-Benz style!Vehicle Details:
