This NO RESERVE auction is for a 1978 Mercedes 450SL. At the end of the auction, the car will be SOLD to the highest bidder.
This well maintained convertible includes the matching hardtop and a dark beige soft top in excellent condition. Since I purchased this roadster 3 years ago, the interior has been upgraded from a pile carpet to the correct German velour. The door cards have been completely rebuilt and recovered and the vacuum box has been upgraded from the original plastic unit to an all aluminum housing. All of the undercarriage rubber mounts and bushings have been replaced. New bushings on all of the steering connecting arms and a new steering box have taken the steering wheel response from sloppy to tight. The engine has been maintained and serviced by two Mercedes mechanics with over 60 years of experience between them. The radiator has been completely rebuilt and re-cored. The 4.5 liter V8 idles at the correct 750 RPM's. All of the gauges and lights work properly. This car is missing it's original Becker Mexico radio cassette player, but a period correct Becker Europa is installed and works perfectly. The automatic power antenna works perfect too. The brakes have been completely rebuilt and replaced within the last 2 years on all four wheels. New Hankook tires were installed about two years ago and have less than 500 miles wear on them since new.This auction includes a weather resistant, soft lined, car cover and a vertical, rolling storage rack for the hard top. The rack will ship disassembled and stored in the trunk. The rolling rack also includes a cover for the hard top when it is off the car and being stored.All of the fuses have been replaced with new ones and the parking brake has recently been tightened and inspected.This 450SL is in great driving condition. It is not a trailer queen, but never fails to get ooh's and ah's when I take it out for a run. This car is rust free. The paint isn't perfect, but it sure looks good. The chrome on the rear bumper has a small, dull spot on the flat top where someone tried to polish the chrome with an abrasive. It looks better than it sounds. The AC works, but could probably use a charge. The heater works. Even the cruise control works on this 40 year old Mercedes. The glass appears to be original, but I am not certain. The power windows work as they should. Manuals, two keys and all repair and maintenance receipts are also included.Here's the work done I've had done on this 450SL with included receipts:
