Imported in 1983 to the US by an army soldier based in Alabama. He imported the car and returned it to his home in South Carolina where it lived for many years before being sold to a gentleman in PA, near Erie where he enjoyed the car for the last 15 years caring for it, and bringing it to car shows and events, never removing the hardtop. We acquired the car recently from him due to his suffering back issues and not able to get in and out of the two seater SL easily anymore. He spoke often of driving the SL to Florida and back once without a hiccup and said he would do it again if he was able, that is how confident he was in this little 280SL.
All original import documents, Original German Registration (Fahrzeugbrief), import invoices and photos all still with the car.72k original documented miles, imported with 51,808 and only 20k miles caring miles since than.Rust Free, Excellent running and driving example. Very Rare 280SL.Original 2 tone black and white Houndstooth interior with door cards and rear seats, Front seats were covered in MB Tex when imported due to fire prevention safety as noted in the import documentation.
Chrome is nice with no pitting, Original black soft top is free of tears or rips. Small bumpers with headlamp washers functional. Plastic window is clear and useable although has slight cloudiness.All lights and switches work, 1983 tape deck fitted and functional.
