1980 Mercedes Benz 450 SLC 5.0
1980 Mercedes-Benz 400-Series SLC 5.0
Up for offer is a rare and highly-sought-after Mercedes Benz 450 SLC 5.0. The 5.0 was created specifically for the World Rally Race Championship. In addition to the larger, all-aluminum five liter V8 engine, this car sports all-aluminum bonnet and trunk covers and rear control arms, plus front and rear spoilers. There are currently fewer than 1,000 of these vehicles on the road in the U.S.A.
Here is a walk-around of this beauty.

At the time of this writing, this is the only 450 SLC 5.0 that I can find for sale in the U.S.A. The following link will take you to a site in Germany that has ten of them ranging in price from $29,600 (23,900 euros) to $136,500 (110,000 euros).

A Mercedes mechanic has replaced the plugs, wire, distributor cap and rotor, and ICV and hoses, making her as strong today as when she came off the line. The A/C was repaired with a new compressor, expansion valve, receiver/dryer and hoses as needed. The body is perfectly straight. The car was originally Champagne Metallic (gold) and a previous owner painted it Astral Silver Metalic. The paint job is a solid B+. There are a couple of chips and a few rust bubbles. The defroster on the rear windshield has started to delaminate.
I have found that this car performs better on the highway than my Ferrari Mondial or my Porsche 928. With just over 100K on the clock, she has averaged only 2,600 miles per year. Her overall condition is strong enough to have earned a parade license plate from the State of Texas.
We chose not to renovate the interior, thinking that the permanent owner would want to update it to his or her own taste. The original gold velour is torn in several places, so we have installed a set of seat covers to make it presentable in the meantime.
This model generally sells for between $30,000 and $100,000. However, because this one is not fully restored, you are able to pick it up at a substantial discount. It is a suitable daily driver now and with a few upgrades it could be a spectacular show car.
Feel free to ask any questions and good luck bidding.
