1979 Mercedes 300 GD - Needs Body Restoration - Sold As-Is
The truck was disassembled to assess the body rust - This is a bigger project than I want to take on.The entire truck is included in the sale (parts are all labeled in plastic bins).
Included in the sale are genuine Mercedes replacement parts for the windshield, frame panel and rear paneling - removal of these pieces has begun and will need to be complete if you wish to just reassemble the truck as-is and drive without addressing the rust.
You will need to trailer the truck home - the truck runs and you will be able to drive it on a trailer, but in its current disassembled state, it is not a driver.
67,901 KM on the odometer - This is most certainly 167,901 KM
The Good:Strong running Metric Motors longblock diesel engine (OM617 normally aspirated 5 cylinder) with approx 20k miles ($4700 cost).Mechanical fuel injection engine.Elsbett Vegetable Oil Conversion Kit with approx 10k miles - runs on SVO/WVO, biodiesel and regular diesel ($1000+ cost).New battery.Clear Virginia Title.Imported legally.Rear ambulance doors in good condition.Complete Truck - All doors, parts, trim, panels, emblems, lights, bumpers, gaskets, etc. were labeled when truck was disassembled.Euro-spec (halogen headlights, marker lights, and KM speedometer).Shift on the fly 4 wheel drive with low range.Front and rear locking differentials (rear works when reservoir is filled - front is inoperable).Later model G Class wheels. Tires are in okay condition.Body is straight.The frame is structurally solid.Mercedes replacement parts for the windshield frame, frame panel and rear panels included with sale ($966 cost).Windshield and all other glass is crack free.Engine, transmission, fuel system, steering, suspension, exhaust, wiring all in place - not removed.The truck is a blast to drive off road.
The Bad:The truck has body rust throughout.Replacement of the windshield frame and rear panels has started and will need to be completed before this is an as-is driver.Need a new gasket for the windshield.Rockers have significant rust.Floors are solid but have rust/holes at the front doors. Due to the cost of replacement floors - these areas could be addressed with sheet metal for significantly less.There is rust on the underside of the doors.There is rust at the attachment points of the rubber trim pieces down the side of the truck (all rubber trim has been saved).The seats have the original plaid, which is worn - they need to be recovered.The accelerator pedal sticks.The front lockers are inoperable.The rear lockers need some attention.Needs a tune up.No AC - AC was not available on this vehicle - I'm not sure about a retrofit. The air vent system works surprisingly well however.The truck is not fast on the highway - 55 mph is getting it.
Terms:This truck is sold as-is, where-is (Richmond, VA). It will need to be taken away on a trailer.Please have your plans in place before bidding. I do not have time to coordinate shipping.The $2500 starting price is the reserve - If you bid $2500, you own the truck unless you get out-bid.Being the winning bidder means you own this truck - I am not re-negotiating at time of pick up.Failure to make payment or pick up as agreed upon will result in forfeiture of your deposit, cancellation of the bid, and the truck will be relisted.Please only bid if you know what you are getting into with this restoration (unless the truck is just pieced back together and driven as a beater, the new owner will need some real auto body experience or relatively deep pockets to pay someone else to restore).
