1970 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 280 SL

After an enormously successful decade of race victories and production car sales success, ercedes-Benz decide to launch a brand new SL model to replace the 190 and the 300. Unveiled at the March 1963 Geneva Motor Show, ercedes-Benz launched the 230SL Coupe/Roadster with a standard removable hardtop and stoway canvas soft top. A distinct concave hardtop was designed for the car and lead way to the nickname “The Pagoda SL”. In 1967 Mercedes-Benz introduced the 250SL with a slight increase in horsepower, tiffer suspension and new rear disc brakes. In December of 1967 Mercedes once again unveiled an improved W113 SL, he 280SL. This time with an increased engine to 2.8 litres and 170hp. The 280SL was built for model year 1968-1971 and of the 23,885 built, nly half came to the United States. The 280SL has become an iconic classic in the motoring world and has shown over the past few years’ excellent investment potential.

This stunning 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is finished in White/Olive Green with Green MB tex and a factory 4-speed manual gearbox. This 280SL has been verified by the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center as a matching numbers car in original colors with a matching numbers 4-speed transmission. The car left the Mercedes-Benz factory in October 1969 and was invoiced to North America where it sold new by Carson-Pettit INC in Devon PA in December of 1969. All of the cars service history is documented from brand new to the late 1980’s in the original Mercedes-Benz service book and with receipts. The car was stripped down in 1987 and completely repainted in its original color and a new convertible top was fitted. At the time of the repaint, he cars engine was removed and rebuilt along with all of the electrical. The paint finish on the car is still beautiful and shows a deep luster and shine. The interior is in excellent condition showing light patina and wear. The convertible top shows some age and some light fading. The hardtop has excellent paint and trim still intact showing light wear. The wood and trim on the car are in excellent condition showing very minimal age. The engine starts right up and idles smoothly. There is no smoke on start up or acceleration. The engine pulls strong and has excellent power. The transmission feels excellent and free from any gears grinding or from the clutch slipping. The suspension feels tight and precise and free from any noises. The steering and brakes are excellent and free from any play or fading. All of the electrical items in the car are operating as designed including the defrost lights and center cluster lights. The ignition buzzer and glovebox light are still operating as well. The AC unit works well and blows out cold and the heater is functioning as designed. Both headlight body notches are present in the front as well as the original spot welds inside the lower fenders in the engine compartment. The original engine heat shield is still intact on the car as well. The original 3 digit numbers are all matching on the hood, ardtop, nd convertible top hard boot. There is no rust found on or under the car and it appears the car still retains its original floors and trunk. The original Mercedes-Benz owner manuals, ervice book, arranty book, ealer book and catalog are all present with the sale of this car including the original pouch, ey, ardtop keys, ack, pare and factory tool kit with Mercedes-Benz tools.
