1973 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Leather

Born, June 1972 - this is a sought after R107 450SL Body Style, 1973 MERCEDES 450SL.
Silver / Black color combination. The paint needs refreshing as it is dull having been parked for many years. This car has only 115,500 original miles on it for a 44 year old car which is pretty impressive. Last registered for the road in North Carolina in 1995.This is a very early production car which is increasing in value every year. As other eBayers have mentioned, you can check the Hagerty valuations for this car. Hagerty states for this model, current Values are as follows:
Concours: $ 46,000.00
Excellent: $ 35,500.00
Good: $ 24,000.00Fair: $ 9,500.00
This car is in Fair Condition - it needs some work such as:
  • The exhaust is loud - it may have come disconnected at one of the joints but is not hanging down.
  • The paint is weak - it will need a new paint coat
  • There are several surface rust areas - looks like an easy fix.
  • The interior - Dash Board has a couple cracks and has separated over the speedometer.
  • The center console is frayed as you can see in the pictures.
  • The gas peddle has come off the connector at the bottom - the car is still drive-able.
  • Several of the interior lights, and one or two of the headlights need to be replaced.
  • When starting the car, it starts and runs and when the gear is selected it engages swiftly but might need a tweak or going over to make sure it's working correctly - as mentioned I have driven up and down the driveway only.
  • When I poured gas into the tank - there was a leak by the opening where I filled the tank - it is probably an easy fix
  • Windshield wipers need to be replaced.
  • There is surface rust over the headlight area fender, passenger side and driver side, and other areas as well.

The positives are plentiful...
  • 1. The soft top looks like it has never been used.
    2. The hard top is in good condition and fits tight.
    3. I have driven the car up and down my drive way - the steering works as do the brakes.
    4. The trunk is clean with a full size wheel and tire that matches the others.
    5. The engine looks clean and there are no leaks on my garage floor.
    6. The car has only 115,500 original miles on it.
    7. The car is originally from North Carolina.
    8. The underside looks clean and rust free from what I can see.
    9. Power windows work well.
    10. Tires are in great shape and the wheels just need a cleaning to bring them back.
  • As we all know with a car that is 44 years old - it's not perfect. I have priced at at half of what others are asking for the same car so you can add your touches an still re-sell and make money if you wish.
I have a clear Virginia title in my name. The car is sold AS-IS. You should inspect the car before Buying or Bidding so you know what you are buying. There are no refunds - the condition of the car is what you see in the pictures - I am sure there are many other items that need adjusting or repair, so please bid accordingly. It will need to be transported away and it can be driven on to your trailer. I will re-install the hardtop before shipping.
