Description:
1982 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Hard Top Convertible Auto V8
1982 Mercedes 380 SL. The car was sitting for 2 years. I found a receipt inside for $1300 worth of work done in 2015.The RESERVE IS HALF OF THAT. It has had the tank worked on, the cold start injector tested, fuel filter replaced, fuel pump replaced, new spark plugs, all the injector nozzles removed and cleaned, and the fuel distributor taken out and rebuilt. It starts right up and sounds good. It has a BRAND new exhaust system on it that appears to have some leaking gaskets somewhere because its a little loud for being new. You can still see the sticker on it.It runs ok but stumbles and doesnt want to rev past 4K rpm all the time.It will rev normally after it warms sometimes but its not always predictable. I believe it needs an auxillary air valve replaced. It runs better with it unplugged and idles too low with it hooked up. May be able to just clean it? It has a brand new battery in it that I purchased for it.The car has had the engine replaced with a 963.12 version. The actual engine number is 116 963 12 063911. According to the internet it has higher compression (9.4:1) and more horsepower at 204 than the original which had 155 hp. It needs some interior help . The dash and seats are cracked. I guess its a common problem with them and they sell covers for both pretty cheaply. The center trim button on one gauge has fallen off and is laying inside. Not a huge deal. The hood doesnt want to stay latched down all the way.The hard top seems to be in good shape. I removed it using the factory wrench to see about the soft top underneath but couldnt figure out how to raise it. The engine pegs the oil pressure gauge and looks to have a newer radiator installed. The chrome bumpers look good and most of the interior trim chrome is good. The body is pretty straight. The very end of the trim on the right rear side is raised up a little. There is scattered hail damage on the hood mainly .It has little visible rust. Theres some chips here and there and rust spots on each side up front on the front rocker area. The frame rails and underneath look solid. I guess its common for them to rust wear the front tires sling water onto the front rocker area.It has a factory mag wheel spare and the wheels all look good. The tires are fairly new i would guess. They do have slight weather checking on the side walls but I think they should be fine. The brakes seem to be up and working and the car shifts into forward and reverse just fine when running. I have moved it around my property just fine but havent driven it on the street because of the air valve and air maybe getting under the hood because of the latch. You may be able to buy it and drive it home but I would recommend that it be trailered and have the brakes bled and air valve replaced first. The title is clear and up to date in my name. This could be a very nice car for little cash outlay. My RESERVE IS HALF OF THE MAINTENANCE BILL that the previous owner paid. Mercedes are solid cars with a lot of class and fun factor. You wont find one that runs this cheap elsewhere. The buyer is responsible for shipping and I recommend that it is towed first but its your choice. Buyer needs to pick it up within 60 days please. Feel free to ask any questions. ThanksVehicle Details:
