Description:

1980 Mercedes-Benz G-Class

For your consideration is a beautiful and rare 1984 2 door German marketGeländewagen (ebay does not recognize the VIN so they have listed it as 1980). Thisparticular vehicle has been equipped with thehighlydesirable OM617A which was never offered in this configuration from the factory and is a much better drive-train than the original. The OM617A has be commonlyrefereedto as the most reliable engine ever made, some of which will make it to one million miles without any major repairs. The turbo diesel is much better than the original however keep in mind these are not the fastest vehicles on the road but areunbelievably cabaple off road and will give any other productionoff road vehicle a run for their money. It is alsoequipped with the very cool EGM snorkel, desirable sliding rear windows, and of course the famousMercedesfront and rear hydraulic locking differentials along with 4 wheel high and 4 wheel low.
This beautiful vehicle has had a significant amount of maintenance done over the last several years by my self as well as the previous two owners to make it as reliable as possible and making it truly a joy to drive. The body was resprayed years ago in Onyx Grey which is a factory Mercedes color and this G wagon wears it well. The body is extremely solid although is not blemish free as this is a vehicle that has been driven as opposed to sitting in storage. This vehicle was used recently in a photoshoot for a high end portable audio company as well as Shift Pattern blog.
Along with the engine swap, the transmission was rebuilt several years ago and seems to be in good working order. One of the only issues I know of on this vehicle is the downshift button which sits just under the gas pedal has recently stopped working, however it still will downshift when climbing hills the same as it previously did with the exception that you have to manually shift occasionally when climbing a steep hill or to first as these cars were not designed to go in first without flooring the pedal to hit the downshift button. These were designed to start in second gear as the first gear is fairly short for climbing.
The interior of thisparticular vehicle has been almost completely redone, much of which was sourced directly from Mercedes Germany, and the seats were redone to match. If you have seen other European market W460 G wagons they will almost always have the beat up plaid interior, this has a very nice leather interior which could easily hold its own against a newer G class. The front seats are authentic recaro seats that have been recovered and also have beenmodified to have heat which is turned on by the rare W460 G wagon dash switched that were sourced for this car.
The suspension on the car is still in good working order and I have just replaced the springs on all four corners with new OEM Mercedes springs as it had begun to sag a little. The shocks couldbenefit from a replacement set although it still rides just fine and handles well, they just seem a bit tired.
Much love has been poured into thebeautifulGeländewagen and it is not perfect but definitely one of the nicer W460's I have seen. I daily drivethis G wagon and recently took it on a roughly 200 mile round trip which it performed flawlessly on. The only other issues I can think of is that the tachometer worksintermittently and the automatic door locksdon't always work with the aftermarketkey fob as well as the radioantenna is not connected. I am often time told I make a great vehicle sound not as great because I try to describe any issues with the vehicle the best I can, but this truly is an amazing car.
This vehicle is being sold as is and is listed on other sites and I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime. I have described the vehicle to the best of my knowledge. I am happy to show the vehicle in person to anyone willing to travel or who lives local to Utah. Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding the vehicle and I will get back to you as quickly as possible. This vehicle will also come with a significant amount of service history that I will send to the new owner.
The previous owner replaced the speedometer as it had just stopped working so the exact mileage is unknown althoughbelieved to be around 180K which is low for these as they are typically very reliable for much higher mileage.
A $1000 deposit will be due within 2 days of auction end. Please do not bid if you do not intend to buy it.
Always interested in hearing what types of trade offers people have but can't guarantee I will take any of them. Looking for a Porsche at the moment but open minded.
