1993 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 600SL

Long story short: The best modern classic money can buy. Smooth, powerful, & comfortable are all words that describe this 6.0L V12 600SL Mercedes
---
The v12 engine alone is a work of art. Take a step back and look at the body lines, meticulously designed by some of Mercedes best, and you know this car is going to be an important part of automotive history. A future classic. A desirable collectible. A car that will outlast & outperform sports cars being built this year. While the smaller v8 500SLs are plentiful, the 600SLs were limited to only 733 in 1993. This is one of them. This was the first year Mercedes imported the silky smooth v12 600sl to the U.S.A. A well maintained 600sl like "Bliss" (I named her this for obvious reasons) can be started instantly, have a quarter balanced on top of the engine, and stay standing. Rev the engine. The coin won't budge. Bliss' engine is perfect. It's been well maintained with frequent synthetic oil changes, always top quality fluids. Elderly owned before me, and has since undergone some important work.
The German Ferrari-grade convertible top is brand new. Keep in mind while searching around for a 500sl or 600sl, convertible tops are a 12-24 hour job. Dealers charge about 1200 for the part and 3000-5000 for labor depending on the dealer.
All hydraulic cylinders for the convertible top (main lift cylinders & bow extension cylinders) have been completely rebuilt by top hydraulics inc, not the cheap o-ring rebuild kits that last a enough time for a seller to put the car into your hands only to have you find out a few months later that you have to take all of the cylinders out & send them off to have them rebuilt the right way. (which isn't cheap either, plus over 12-20 hours of labor)
A brand new wiper blade has just been installed. Little details matter to me. You won't be disappointed.
Like-new seats have been installed into the car. They are original Mercedes seats from another car. It's an exact match, aside from these not having the heated seat function & lumbar support. I have the original seats too but they have some tears. They could be reinstalled or you could take the heating element out of the old seats and have them put into the new ones. The new seats are minty fresh, and look excellent. Again, they are a perfect original match. I treated this car with the future owner/investor in mind. I wanted it to be something someone would be proud to add to their collection.
The paint is in 9/10 condition. Some minor rock chips and normal wear. These have been filled in with original touch up paint from Mercedes.
You'd be surprised what a good polish & wax can do to this Mercedes paint. Many many more decades of driving before this paint has any noticeable fading.
Every detail was considered, down to the type of spark plugs used. (brand new platinum spark plugs, close to $100 was spent on these, after all, they are an important part of internal combustion engines)
The kick-down switch, solenoid & transmission was completely gone through. The transmission shifts as though it were new. No issues whatsoever. Kick down solenoid has been replaced and will not need attention for another 10-15 years or so.
The entire fuel system was cleaned and flushed to allow proper fuel supply to the engine. Throttle bodies were tested, & cleaned. The air filters (x2) are new and in great condition.
It recently passed emissions and is registered until march 2018. As an example of this engine's tremendous capability to stand against the test of time, it passed emissions with flying colors. A normal car should seek to get just under 100 points. The lower the better. Bliss the 600sl was able to attain a score of 7 out of 100 points. This means she is idling and running more efficiently than most cars out there. I was extremely impressed. If you take care of this car it should last for many generations.
There is cracking in the wood trim pieces around the car. This is even normal for a car that is 8-10 years old. Eventually you could choose to replace it, but it already looks wonderful. The interior is a great place to spend your time while driving the back winding roads. This is a tremendous value. You get both style & reliability. The v12 outperforms the v8 500sl by 30% in power, and will last 50-60% longer if taken good care of. For some reason these v12s seem to last much longer. Perhaps it's because the 12 cylinders distribute the work in a much more efficient way than just having 8.
The suspension outperforms most modern cars on the market. It's comfortable, yet tight. You stay comfortably in your seat as you take smooth, quick turns. Turn on sport mode suspension & you get a rougher, tighter, lower setting where you can zip around corners and fly by traffic.
The engine has been completely cleaned and detailed for the next owner's enjoyment. This is an engine that deserves to be shown off. Just wait for the car shows in 2030. I can just imagine some teenager with his dad walking up, looking in awe at the massive v12 engine. It's something everyone can appreciate.
The hood liner/heat insulation was replaced, & gives it a very fresh clean look.
Yes, you could save a few bucks and purchase a 500sl. Maybe with a few less miles, and the hope that maintenance is less expensive. You'll soon learn that the v12 is just more reliable. Faster, more powerful. Smoother & more efficient. I drive a ford ranger as my work truck, which is suppose to be pretty good on gas. According to the MPG gauge on the dash, I'm getting over 25 MPG on the highway, sometimes more. Parts are available from Mercedes still, so nothing to worry about there.
It is just a wonderful car, and I hope I can find a worthy buyer out there. At about 10% of the MSRP... you're getting a bargain. A worry free car. Ready for long trips, or car shows. Next year, she'll be a true classic. Today, she remains a modern Classic, at a great price.
I'm moving overseas, which is why I've decided to sell. If I'm unable to get a good offer for the car before august, I will just keep it as an investment. If you have any questions, please call or text me at 6O255O2491. Or email me. I'd be happy to help.
Note: transmission service was done this week, and a Mercedes master mechanic looked the car over. You're going to have a great, strong running V12 engine paired with a leak free, smooth transmission.
*Wind screen is brand new. Car comes with 3 keys.
