1972 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 220 D

1972 Mercedes Benz 220D finished in White with Black interior upholstery. This beautiful Mercedes has only 60k original miles and is in wonderful condition. It was sparingly used by it's original owner up until his death in 1985 and then kept by his widow until 1999 when it was passed to her nephew. I purchased the car in 2004 and have probably put on less than 1,000 miles during that period. The car has been properly cared for and garaged it's entire life, which is evident upon inspection. It isclassically utilitarian by design and very sparsely optioned; manual windows, no air conditioning, and no radio etc. It drives very nicely and is very impressive to look at.
The exterior of the car is in excellent condition. The paint holds a shine and shows no signs of fade. It had been re-painted around the year 2000, at which time the chrome trim was replaced with OEM Mercedes pieces. There is no rust on the car. It was given a Ziebart rustproof coating when new which has done a good job of protecting the undercarriage and trunk of the car. The car was also not used in the winter time. The body panels are straight and there are very few dings, scratches etc. All glass, plastic, chrome and trim pieces are in very good shape. The wheels are also in very good shape.
The interior of the car is in excellent condition. Vinyl Mercedes Texupholstryis in very good shape and has no holes or tears. The original color, texture, and finish are bright and bold as a result of having been garaged. The seats hold their original shape, spring, and form. The dash has no cracks. The headliner sits perfectly with no sag or discoloration. The car has not been smoked in and has no strange odors. The carpets are free from any noticeable dirt or stains and do not show fade. The only issues with the interiorare; that the plastic door mounted map pockets have fallen off. I still have one, which has a broken tab, but the other is no longer with the car. The other issue is that the passenger side headrest has lost tension and swings freely, it no longer is adjustable back and forth.
Mechanically, the car is in excellent condition. The engine is youthful and strong. The transmission shifts as it should. The steering and suspension are tight. There are no strange noises or rattles. The front end does not make noise while going over bumps or turning. The few interior functions that the car has are working properly. Heat is hot, fan is working. The only malfunction is that the windshield washer will not spray fluid to the windshield. It is a manual system which is pumped by your left foot. I only have one key to the car and the owner's manualwas not with the car when I had purchased it. I had the car stored for several years with very little use. When I removed it from storage a few weeks back in preparation for sale, I noticed the car was pulling to one side. I had taken the car to a Mercedes mechanic and had the left caliper, brake line, and master cylinder replaced with genuine parts. The problem was fixed and the car is stopping straight now. Due to the age of the car, Connecticut will not issue a title and I do not have one. I dohave the last registration and can provide a bill of sale.
These cars have a legendary reputation for durability, engineering and build quality. This modelhad been frequently used as Taxis due to their efficiency and reliability. This 220D is a very rare findhaving such low mileage and being in very good condition It would be a great addition to a collection or weekend driver. Most surviving examples of this model are rusted out or have around 300k miles and are terribly worn out. This car is very well preserved and in very impressiveshape. I have tried to describe the car as thoroughly and as accurately as possible. If you have any further questions, would like specific photos or would like to see the car, please let me know.
