1978 Mercedes 300D in line 5 cylinder diesel, no turbo.
Documented 93,000 original miles.The 5cyl engine runs strong, cold starts immediately, has plenty of pick up, and there is no turbo maintenance.I have personally had this car up to nearly 100 mph and it cruises effortlessly.Acceleration is similar to 300D turbodiesel. Only difference is that highway RPMS are slightly higher.The transmission upshifts and downshifts smoothly and reliably.This car is completely and solidly ALL ORIGINAL. It has never been rusted, dented, body repaired, or damaged in ANY way.Always Arizona car. Newer tires.All power windows and power sunroof work.Odometer/speedometer works and have always worked and this is the original speedometer.Vacuum system to doors, trunk and fuel fillerdoor work.Starts cold immediately, newer glow plugswhich function and time out properly. You might get a small spot once a month is all.All gauges and instruments work properly except clock.
This is a magnificent alloriginal UNRESTORED but well maintained car. It has typical interior AZ sun deterioration, but because of the light color interior there is no visible fading and all seats and surfaces are without rips.Carpets are perfect.Dash has sun cracks and wood around the AC controls has some marks.Cruise control does not work and I have NOT tried to repair it. Probably a vacuum leak. This is the older stylecruise control.Paint is sun damaged on hood, roof, and trunk. see photos.To my knowledge everything else works just like the day it was delivered.
