1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 300CE

THE CLASSIC MERCEDES COUP, , one of the last of the handmade series, the W124 chassis, collectible and in Excellent / Very Good condition. A California car with no rust and clear title, being offered by the third owner. This car has always been garaged, and has a full mechanical journal for the 14 years I've owned it. A LOW MILEAGE CAR . . . The car has been driven an average of 3000 miles annually over the past 14 years. Total miles on an annual basis over 25 years = 7,200, almost half the "average" annual mileage.The 24-valve, inline straight 6 motor has had a complete valve and head gasket job & has a new 2 year old radiator. One owner, one mechanic since 2002, always in my private garage. The Bridgestone Turanza tires have less than 20,000 miles on a 60,000 mile warranty, and are considered by my tire dealer, Wheel Works, to be the best for this car. Rotation and alignment are performed on a quarterly basis since 2002. THIS IS THE SECOND GENERATION 300CE WITH A LARGER ENGINE, THE 24-VALVE 217 HP. IN LINE 6 . . . the first generation (1986-1989) had a lesser motor, a 16-valve engine with 40 less horsepower, which was a less satisfying driving experience, torque and power-wise.This car's 24-valve motor is strong, reliable and smooth idling with plenty of torque. NO SMOG ISSUES: This car passes the strict California emission tests each year with flying colors.. Note that 2 of the CE coupes currently on eBay auctions cannot be sold in California or even driven in the state, due to engine emission issues. THE NEW TRANSMISSION . . .The MB refurbished 4-speed automatic was installed by my mechanic in 2005. Shifts are smooth and seamless. THE NEW AIR CONDITIONING . . . I replaced the Freon-based a/c with a more modern, non-Freon cooling system which works perfectly . . . THE NEW BOSCH BATTERY . . . Still under warranty. THE PREMIUM COLOR COMBINATION . . . "Smoke Silver" was a premium color choice, at additional $1400 cost. Most cars had the "Parchment" (beige) interior. This example has the "Palomino"( or "Java") darker tan color, which is rarer, and commands a premium. There's a cult following of German collectors for this 24-valve model, I was just informed by a German visitor. He offered to buy the coupe (4/13/16) to ship back to Germany where these coupes have a value far beyond KBB. THE ANNUAL WAXING & INTERIOR LEATHER CLEANING . . .The interior leather and wood are all in remarkable condition, as this car has always been garaged, and gets washed when needed, waxed annually, with leather cleaning, conditioning & carpet shampooing. That's every year for the last 14 years by my body shop owner. THE VALUE OF THIS CAR GOES BEYOND "BLUE BOOK" . . . I have invested over $8000 in original MB parts, not counting the MB shop labor. Labor costs are always higher than part costs. The price I've set is quite reasonable for the time and labor involved in restoring this Collector's Car, Full documentation of mechanical & cosmetic work I have performed in past 14 years is available for review. RESTORED FEATURES . . . The engine has had a valve & head gasket job; the A/C has been changed from Freon to current NON-FREON format; the transmission was replaced in 2005 with an MB refurbished original equipment 4 speed automatic transmission, and it has a recent new radiator and battery. XM radio and iPod wiring are included. For a serious buyer candidate, I will arrange an inspection, and phone interview with the manager, Mario, at Pete's Mercedes, the best independent SF shop where I've maintained this 300CE since 2002.
