Description:
1993 Mazda RX-7 R1
I'll start off like most people in my shoes would..... I thought I'd never be selling this car! I've owned it for 23 years now. Like most of you looking at this listing, the 3rd gen RX-7 (FD) is a dream car! I made that dream a reality in February of 2000 with 58K on the odometer. I thoroughly enjoyed having this car. For the first 10 years of ownership I continually made changes/modifications to the car to make it look and perform how I wanted it to. I competed in local SCCA autocross during that time and the car was very competitive. I also occasionally would take it to the local drag strip and a few times even took it to the Hallett circuit in Oklahoma (there's a video on YouTube, search for "legendrx7" to find it). I had it setup to perform on the corners, fast in a straight line, and great to look at! It was featured in the October 2005 issue of Turbo Magazine. The car is a local legend and was beloved by so many. I'll be getting plenty of grief for selling it. Why am I selling it? Well, I really want an early model NSX and selling this car is part of getting all of my ducks in a row to make that happen! I also have a second FD and a '79 RX-7, so I won't be missing out. Selling this car will go towards the NSX and create a space in the garage for it.The car is originally a Brilliant Black R1 model, 1 of 138 produced. About 2.5 years into ownership, I accidentally slid it off into a ditch. This accident was minor, it broke the fuel door (included with the extra parts), put a small dent in the left rear quarter panel, and low lying tree branches scratched up the paint. Some friends easily pulled me out of the ditch and I drove it home with no issues. No impact or other damage whatsoever. The insurance company paid for a new paint job and I took the opportunity to change the color to Porsche Arctic Silver Metallic along with changing to aftermarket body parts.
I did blow up a few motors along the way. The last time was in March of 2010. At that time I was about to become a father, so I decided to put the car on the back burner. I did try a couple times to get it back on the road with a new round of modifications. I had the local rotary guru rebuild the motor using a Mazda rebuild kit, good used parts all within Mazda spec, with Rotary Aviation 2mm Super Seals and a large streetport (photos uploaded), the motor has zero miles on it since rebuild. I have uploaded a video of turning the motor over recently to show that it has full compression. I was going to go all out with a very large Holset turbo with custom manifold and decided to cut out the core support to do a fully custom tubular setup, I used a plasma cutter for this and it ended up being messy. In hindsight, I do regret doing this modification to the car. Then, life happened and I never fully got back on the project. It has been stored indoors the entire time that it has been off the road.
- I have cleaned and reassembled the car as much as possible. I did this to accurately show the condition of the car and everything that is included with the purchase.
- I tack welded the core support back in place so that I could support the bumper.
- I am including several of the stock parts... bumper, fenders, pop-up headlights, spoiler, steering wheel w/airbag, A/C parts, etc... everything you see in the photos is included.
- I'll let the photos/videos speak to condition of everything and to clearly show what is included with the car
- Note - the adhesive you will see on the passenger side rear wheel arch and the rear bumper above the exhaust outlet is old paint protection film that I have found can be removed with your fingernails.
- Ebay does not allow you to list near enough photos for a project like this. So, I have uploaded over 300 photos/videos to my Flickr page. To view them, go to flickr dot com, in the search bar type in "legendrx7" and select "search people", click on the search result and you'll be at my page, then click on "albums" and select "RX-7".
