1989 Maserati Other

This particular 1989 Maserati Zagato Spyder is an extraordinarily rare and exceptional car. First, the 1989 Spyder is the car to get since it has the twin-turbo 2.8 L engine (the largest in the series), fuel injection, water-cooled turbos, 15” wheels, and many other improvements over the earlier Biturbos that make this a very user friendly and easy to maintain car. Second, with only about 300 cars delivered to North America in 1989 and most being automatics, a 5-speed is not common. Third, this is a Euro-spec car with a range-topping 250 hp pushing this 2400 lb car extraordinarily quickly down the highway; cars in this highest-performance Euro configuration and located in the US likely could be counted on one hand. This car has been very well cared for over its lifetime and it shows. With only 46,000 km on the car (about 28,500 miles) it is in excellent condition both cosmetically and mechanically, a beautiful Italian exotic designed by the legendary Zagato. The gaps look great, doors shut like a bank vault, brightwork is clean, and there is no sign of rust. This car has been babied. Recently serviced with new fluids, spark plugs, ignition wires, air filter, and alignment. New Bilstein rear shocks were just installed, a big improvement over the Konis. Tires have plenty of remaining life. Books and tools are all present. Timing belt and water pump are about to be done, to mechanically make this truly a “needs nothing” turn-key car for the new owner. There are a few minor nicks and chips here and there, as expected, but presents very well. Bolsters are quite presentable, but have some of the expected wear. A small tear in the soft top was repaired by PO, but is rarely used anyway. A pull loop on the soft top cover needs to be resewn. The only bad thing is an insurance claim to repair what turned out to be some relatively minor fire damage in the engine compartment a few years ago. It turned out to be much easier than expected once we dug into it during the repair (all documented). OEM parts were used to keep it original, and it turned out beautifully. The car drives very well with no unwanted drama or fuss. But the drama comes when the turbos spool up, turning the car into a rocket. The turbos give a smooth power deliver (i.e. not laggy) and the gears shift effortlessly, all in a luxury cabin filled with leather and wood creating a combination of power and class that Maserati does so well. My wife adores this car.Have some fun with some al fresco driving this summer for not a lot of moneyin this beautiful Maserati convertible in classic Italian red and tan. This car is a spectacular example that needs nothing but a new home.
