37K Miles 4 cyl Twin Cam 4 spd

Price: - Item location: San Diego, California, United States
Description:

1974 Lotus Europa Twin Cam Coupe

This car with an original 37000 miles was sold after a major restoration in RM Sotheby in June 2016 – in perfect condition. Unfortunately, a fire (I think started with the battery) heavily damaged the left sides. The engine turns freely and gears change easily – so I assume there is no damage to the drivetrain.

You can see the car before the damage at:

https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/ca16/santa-monica/lots/r0080-1974-lotus-europa/558563

where it was stated:

Reported as out of a collection with a known ownership history; this low mileage example has been taken apart and treated to a repaint by Phantom Restorations in Seattle, Washington, also undergoing a refurbishing, including the big valve heads being rebuilt. The A-arms have also received attention mechanically and cosmetically. Invoices and receipts for the last 30 years are included, as is the original license plate and sticker.

Unfortunately, the folder containing the receipts was also damaged in the fire.

I have a clear CA title on my name and not sure if the insurance reported the damages (car was underinsured).

I started getting restoration estimates and in the process some parts were removed, as seen on the photos.

In summary: The Good:

Good front part + Cockpit.

Freshly restored engine and 4 spd transaxle.

Good chassis

Good windshield

Good passenger seat

Good shifting mechanism

Good wheels

The bad:

Rearfiberglassclip needed (rear left is completely gone, rear hood was broken but can be easily fixed, driver’s side seat is damaged - can be fixed. Right side is undamaged – like new).

Headliner is bad.

Wiring is bad.

Currently, the engine needs the upper plastic parts of the distributor and a new starter.

Rear shocks/springs were damaged by the fire – all new bushing set is needed for rear suspensions).

Well come to inspect the car in El Cajon, near Sam Diego.
