1989 Lincoln Town Car Cartier

1989 Lincoln Town Car Cartier

Louis-Franois Cartier founded Cartier in Paris, France in 1847 when he took over the workshop of his master, Adolphe Picard. In 1874, Louis-Franois' son Alfred Cartier took over the company, but it was Alfred's sons Louis, Pierre and Jacques who established the brand name worldwide. Louis ran the Paris branch, moving to the Rue de la Paix in 1899. He was responsible for some of the company's most celebrated designs, like the mystery clocks (a type of clock with a transparent dial and so named because its mechanism is hidden,) fashionable wristwatches and exotic orientalist Art Deco designs, including the colorful "Tutti Frutti" jewels.

For consignment and your consideration, a buttoned up, near wonderful, Cartier edition of the 1989 Lincoln Town Car. With plenty of comfort amenities, 1980's design utilizing the square and rectangle, and tastefully selected colors and finishes. This Cartier car is no exception with plenty of power amenities, climate controls, fine leather interior complete with plenty of wood appliqus in exotic woods and driving controls such as cruise control.

Exterior
The side panels (essentially the middle 1/3 of this car) are covered with Silver Frost Metallic, showing nicely with little faults overall. The uppers, door sills, fender tops, roof, hood, and trunk lid of the car is draped with Sandstone Metallic, again nicely preserved. On the rockers we see a large stainless polished trim piece, running on the sides from stem to stern. Chrome bumpers adorn each area of the rear and grille and are nice and shiny. On front is the Rolls Royce-esque separate grille and radiator surround topped by the Continental star badge. This is flanked by dual horizontal rectangular headlights with another Continental star badge separating these lights. As with any potentially chauffeur driven car, the rear passenger area outside has a padded vinyl roof complete with opera lights on the B pillars, and tinted windows as well as a vertical C pillar window for some extra viewing area and more interior natural light. Spoked wheel covers are on all 4 corners, and consigner states all new tires and a spare are now on or in this car.

Interior
A pull on any one of the massive doors, and you will be met with a plethora of controls in a wood appliqu tiger maple woodgrain. From mirror controls, to windows, power locks and seat adjustments it's all there at the driver's fingertips. Gray panels cover the remainder of the doors and are molded plastic to create an armrest for the left arm of the driver, and right of the passenger. Dual overstuffed and wide leather covered padded bucket seats are in front and have a fold down armrest for extra comfort on those long drives. The rear bench which has massive leg room, and a wide stance for extra room complete with another armrest stretches from rear door to rear door. An original square and rectangle design dash is up from the and includes a large amount of more tiger maple wood appliqu, and the rectangular trio of gauges and a clock gauge cluster, climate controls, and an aftermarket stereo which doubles as a CD player as well all neatly tucked under a gray padded dash top with no cracks or faults. Gray carpet covers the floors and is a very thick pile for extra sound deadening and comfort. Sitting on the hump is also a CB radio and on the rear trunk deck is a flexible spring antenna for the CB radio.

Drivetrain
Flipping open the crested hood, we are welcomed into a fully restored and ultra polished up engine bay with a 5 liter V8 fuel injected gas guzzler to run all the car, its amenities and then some. An AOD 4 speed automatic transmission is attached to the back of this big mill, and all the way back, is a Ford 8.8 inch rear with 3.27 conventional gearing.

Undercarriage
Impressively preserved with just a touch of surface rusting on the rockers, areas of the frame, and the usual suspects, but overall very good. Noted is a hole in the muffler due to rust invasion, so it will need repaired or replaced. Otherwise all is strong and sturdy under here. Independent coil springs upfront, and 4 link with coil springs provide the executive ride. Power disc brakes upfront, and power drums on the rear are seen.

Drive-Ability
As with all the potentially and actual chauffeur driven cars, I sit in the back and enjoy the scenery all the while paying attention to my senses for convenience options, and this car does not let me down. Climate control was spot on, and the ride was very smooth with plenty of leg room. My driver reported nice acceleration, good cornering for a large car, and a smooth cruise, which I noticed as well. Good stopping power, and all the conveniences worked to perfection.

If you are going to be driven, or want to drive a large designer inspired car, why not do it in old style with this 1989 Lincoln Town Car a-la Cartier inspirations. Fancy enough to rival their modern kin, but classic square design that never gets old in this case. It is like a pair of Docksiders, a Polo shirt, or a plaid bow tie ...timeless with plenty of class.
