Description:
1942 LINCOLN ZEPHYR
Here is a unique opportunity to own a rare car and one that truly is a barn find, having been tucked away in an Oregon barn for nearly 60 years. This is a 1942 Lincoln Zephyr Sedan. This car was owned by a doctor here in Oregon for a long time, possibly since new. At some point in the early 1950's, the doctor was prompted to buy a new vehicle to replace his beloved, yet dated '42 Lincoln. The Zephyr was bought by an (at the time) overzealous kid who got it home, but drove it very little before it developed some sort of issue. (he could not remember what exactly the issue was, but noted that it was something relatively minor, but too much for a "dumb kid to handle") It was then parked in the barn and never made it further than that. It sat right there until now. Along the way, the radiator was removed, but is included. The big V12 engine does turn over and the transmission seems to shift. The car rolls easily.
This Lincoln is in surprisingly good condition for it's age. While it does have it's share of minor imperfections and patina, it is in overall solid condition with most all of it's rust appearing to be surface only. The exceptions to that that I have found are the left lower corner of the decklid, the lowest point of the trunk drip rail and a couple very small spots on the driver's floor board. It seems to be otherwise very solid.
The interior is tattered, but intact and survived with minimal rodent damage. It is really pretty impressive how complete and solid this car is.
Aside from the unusual nature of this find and the rarity of the car itself, it should be noted that there are a lot of desirable pieces on this Zephyr. The steering wheel, door buttons, brakes, etc. are all very popular hot rod and custom touches that have been used since the 1940's. That said, this is a better candidate for either a restoration, or to be fixed up enough to be driven as-is, with patina worn proudly.
Also included is the original radio, which was not pictured. The missing driver's rear bumper guard is in the trunk, along with the spare tire. All four hard to find hub caps are on the car, optional skirts that lived on the car for a long time were slipped on for the photos and are included.
This car is complete and impressively solid for it's age. A real find that anyone could be proud to own - and all for a cheap entry price..
Location is near Portland, Oregon.
