Description:

1994 Lexus LS 400

1994 LEXUS LS400

You’re looking at the legendary, first-generation Lexus LS400 (model designation UFC10). This vehicle represents the pinnacle of Lexus engineering, as captured in the iconic Lexus commercial with wine glasses placed on the hood of a UFC10 (see embedded video). This 1994 model is the final year of the first generation LS400, which means it has all the model year improvements vs. the 1990-92 models (e.g., larger wheels/brakes, dual airbags, etc.) without the decontenting of subsequent models. If you know these vehicles, you know of their legendary reliability and longevity.

I purchased this car in 2014 after scouring Southern California for almost a year to find an excellent example. My goal was to restore it to like new condition, while also bringing it up to modern standards for use as a daily driver (think: wireless CarPlay, backup camera, lane departure warning). After coming across a few very low mileage vehicles that were abused, with major mechanical issues, or left sitting with dried out seals, I changed my approach and found a very well cared for 1994 LS400 with 111k on it (still low miles as it was driven an average of only ~5500mi/yr) and fully optioned minus air suspension. This car was in much better shape than the others I came across, so much so that I bought it in spite of its salvage title!

The backstory: it was in a minor accident in 2013, resulting in deep paint scrapes along the whole side of the car and a few minor dents. It was totaled by the insurance company because the cost to repair/repaint was greater than the value of the then-20 year old car. The prior owner bought it back from insurance and had the body and paint redone at Custom Auto Body and New Image paint (in OC); after I bought it, I had Cypress Auto Body / Magic Touch in Hermosa Beach bring the paint up to OEM standards with an acid wash, wet sand, buff, and touch up.

In my 8 years of ownership, I’ve spared no expense in restoring this vehicle’s engine and drivetrain to like new condition. All repairs utilized new Lexus OEM parts and I have extensive service records, including those from Lexus and the shops I used for repairs during my ownership. Repairs and maintenance during my 8 years and 30k mi. of ownership include the following:

- Completely new Lexus OEM suspension: struts/shocks/springs, ball joints, lower control arms, LCA bushings, front/rear strut bushings, strut insulators, rear carrier bushing
- Timing belt/water pump service (including both idler pulleys, hydraulic tensioner, cam/crank seals, valve adjustment, valve cover gaskets, spark plug tube seals, upper/lower intake gasket)
- New PCV, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor caps/rotors, coils
- New motor and transmission mounts
- New steering rack, rack bushing
- New power steering pump and vacuum valve
- New alternator
- New starter, flywheel
- New radiator, thermostat, coolant temp sensor
- New transmission shift solenoids and “passing gear” shift cable
- New main TPS and sub-TPS
- New EGR actuator
- New fuel injector seals
- New pre-cat O2 sensors
- New charcoal canister and fuel cap
- Rebuilt ECU
- Rebuilt climate control display
- New power steering high and low pressure hoses
- New door seal
- New hood struts
- New antenna
- New cabin air filter
- Wheel alignment and balance
- Transmission serviced, pan dropped, filter changed, new fluid
- Brake bleed
- Coolant flush, new coolant/heater and vacuum hoses throughout
- Throttle body and MAF cleaning, BG44k intake service
- M1 synthetic in differential, transmission
- New Pirelli Cinturato P7 all season tires with less than 5k mi on them
- New AAA battery with warranty until 2028 (see pic)
- 2023 registration completed, it had no problem passing smog

Aftermarket additions include:
- Pioneer 4500NEX 7” in-dash stereo with WIRELESS CarPlay/Android Auto and front and rear (backup) cameras- everything tastefully done to look as stock as possible, including replacing factory subwoofer (cone disintegrated due to age) with like size in factory location, and new amps in stock locations
- New rearview mirror with monitor and digital compass
- Garmin Speak Plus dash cam- in addition to dash cam, it includes Amazon Alexa, lane departure warning, traffic moving alerts
- Magnefine filter on transmission and power steering
- B&M auxiliary coolers on transmission and power steering
- Tow hitch professionally installed (never used for towing, only to hold a bike rack)

What’s Needed:
- Front seat leather shows its age, including cracks through the leather in the front passenger seat; leather could use replacement. In the meantime, I have seat covers for the front seats to protect them.
- Front seatbelts also show their age, as they retract slowly. This is a ~$200 repair with https://www.safetyrestore.com/
- The TRAC button doesn't seem to turn off the traction control. I haven't looked into this, as there are no check engine codes so I'm not too concerned about it.

I urge you to come see the vehicle for yourself, have it checked out by a mechanic and you’ll see just how much work has gone into bringing it back to like new mechanical condition. No lowballers, no trades. Payment accepted via cashiers check to be deposited before releasing vehicle.
