For sale is my 1985 Land Rover 110 Defender.The listing says 1980, owever that's becauseeBay in the U.S.doesn't accept imported vehicles 1981 and newer. If you've never driven or ridden in one of these, hen there's a good chance this truck isn't for you. IT IS NOT A LUXURY VEHICLE. Driving a defender is more of an attitude and an experience than it is a luxury. If you are like me, hen driving is more about the experience than it is about luxury. You know who you are.
This has been my daily driver for the past two years and is an extremely dependable truck. Unlike most defenders, his one has a 300tdi diesel engine. It's not fast, ut it gets 22-30mpg consistently which is great for city driving. I find that in L.A. it's better to have gas mileage than performance. This truck gets better gas mileage than my wife's BMW 330ci. This truck cruises comfortably at 65mph on the highway and will go faster, ut if you know this type of truck, t's not really built for speeds upward of 70mph. The truck is right hand drive and is manual, o it takes a minute to get used to it, ut I've got no issues driving the car and switching back and forth to a left hand drive vehicle. I get asked a lot if the right hand drive is legal and the answer is 100% yes. Perhaps the most unusual thing about this 110 is that it is 100% REGISTERED AND LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA. I have no problem with insurance, egistration and because it's a diesel there are NO SMOG requirements. That being said, f you do a VIN check, ou'll find that carfax nor any other VIN service can process it. That is because the truck was imported from the UK in 2010 100% legally. European VIN's do not check out here. However, he DMV has no problem with registration of this truck because whomever did the import did it correctly. The interior is in fair condition, verall, he truck is well above average in condition for the year and price range.
The Good: I replaced the front tires and steering arm less than 500 miles ago. The rear tires still have about 70% tread left. I done extensive work on the undercarriage of the car replacing the front brakes with a performance disc brake set, eplaced all hubs, eplaced the shocks and springs, eplaced the power brake master cylinder, eplaced several gaskets, nd rebuilt the transfer case. Like I've said, he truck is extremely dependable and I have no issues. Don't expect that means the truck is perfect. It's an old truck so having AAA is a must for any vehicle over 10 years old. I know just about every shop that will work on and service this truck in L.A. and orange county. If you buy this truck, 'll hook you up with all of that information as to make the operation of this truck as easy as possible. It took me about 6 months to amass that information after I bought it.
The Bad: There is no A/C. It's an aftermarket add on and it's expensive. The truck has a good ventilation system, ut these trucks were built for agriculture and heavy duty offroad driving. See the part above about driving this is an experience not a luxury. Body - The rear door is dented, ut can be fixed easily. The right front fender also has a dent, ut is also an easy fix and not that noticeable. The truck needs a new spare tire carrier on the back which is about $500.00. Parts for this car aren't cheap, owever there are no computers and if you have a good diesel mechanic the truck is the most bulletproof older truck you can get in my opinion.
The Reason It's For Sale: I got married, ought a house and am starting a family. Because of that - I'm looking to drive something with airbags.
