This 1964 Land Rover 88 Series IIA underwent a multi-year refurbishment that began in 2021. The body parts were professionally painted as individual parts in Marine blue and the interior was fitted with replacement three-across front seating and new inward-facing jump seats. The original 2.25- liter engine was rebuilt to factory specs and complete overhauling of the suspension with new springs, shackles, and shocks. The braking system was overhauled with new brake master cylinder, brake drums, and brake pads. The four-speed manual transmission, and dual-range transfer case were both overhauled and resealed. A new OEM wiring harness was installed.
Additional equipment includes a Roamerdriveoverdrive unit was installed as new, manually locking front hubs were rebuilt, 16″ factory steel wheels, a Kodiak heater, and a replacement canvas soft top with all new galvanizedhardware. This Land Rover Series 2a 88" Series IIA is now offered for sale in Spokane, WA with a uninstalled clevis pin hitch, a spare factory hardtop, and a Washington State title in the seller’s name listing the truck as a 1964 model.The body was removed from the frame (chassis) during the refurbishment. The original folding windshield was fitted with replacementfront glass on both sides and the removable canvas soft top with vinyl windows was added for daily use and the original hard top is included. The front windshield wiper motors and factory carburetorwere rebuilt as well. Additional exterior details include H4 headlights, fender-mounted mirrors, sliding factory side windows, and Land Rover-branded rear mud flaps.The original 16″ steel wheels are finished in ivory and wear newer 235/75 Hankook Radial Z46 tires. The truck is equipped with manually locking front hubs. The suspension and brakes were replaced with new parts to include springs, shocks, bushings, brakers drum, brakes shoes, and brakes master cylinder. Gauges were overhauled at a specialty shop who are experts in freshening up vintage glass.
The cabin features replacement three-across front seating and inward-facing cargo-area jump seats upholstered in black vinyl. Replacement lap belts were installed and the Kodiak heater was rebuilt and powder coatedas part of the interior refresh. The originalbanjo-style steering wheel was rebuilt. The 2.25-liter inline-four factory engine was rebuilt along with a rebuilt factory Zenith downdraft carburetor.
The water pump, thermostat, Interstate battery, starter, generator, factory wiring harness, clutch, pressure plate, clutch master cylinder, and complete exhaust system were replaced with all new parts.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows initial delivery to The Rover Company in New York and a build date of February 1, 1963. The seller is believed to be the second owner of this rare original Series 2A 88" Land Rover.
