One of my two favorite Defender colors…cobalt blue. Purchased from a Italy and described as ‘perfect running and driving condition’. It arrived running on 3 of 4 cylinders and leaking coolant from the water pump (new one included, but not installed). New turbo. Tested the injectors and found that there is no fuel arriving to the rear cylinder injector (nearest firewall). I’m not a LR mechanic, but past experience with Mercedes diesels tells me the injector pump needs rebuilding and last time I did this, the cost was around $800 I believe.
Seat covers are cheap and super easy to install.
After doing a ground-up restauration on a 1963 Series 2, I have no interest in anymore projects. Due to the water and injector pump issues, I have never driven this Defender, but have ‘lot driven’ just around my house and storage hanger. All 5 forward and reverse gears work. Power steering works. All lights, signals, wipers and horn works…all electrical works correctly. All I have done is install a new battery and more modern Defender wheels with good tires (anti-theft locks with 'key' socket included). The set of 5 original wheels that were mounted on arrival, are included.
Chassis is in excellent original condition. Inspection of frame rails shows absolutely no sign of accident damage or repair. Some areas have original coating missing and surface rust developing, but no need for anything more than refinishing and recoating. Body, chassis and vehicle, in general, is in extremely good original condition. Paint looks good and I have not touched it…so, a bit of buffing would go a long way to removing the effects of the Italian sun.
Some of the typical electrolysis where aluminum meets steels is present, but to a very minor degree, thanks to the dry climate it comes from. Bulkhead/firewall shows only ONE spot of rust at the top, passenger side door hinge. The rubber seal surrounding this hinge has clearly let some moisture enter. Otherwise, it’s extremely clean and rust-free.
