Description:

1987 Jeep Wagoneer

For sale is my Classic 1987 Jeep Wagoneer Limited 4x4. It has the NP 242 Transfer Case and the bulletproof AMC 4.0L Inline 6!
I purchased this Jeep from the previous owner in December 2016. I am the 4th owner of this vehicle, which was originally sold to a couple in Plantation, FL in December 1986. I got it running again and it was my daily driver for most of 2017 and 2018. When I bought a brand new car in 2019, I hired a local ASE-certified mobile mechanic to slowly restore the Jeep.
Repairs started by pulling out the motor and taking it apart. Nearly everything was replaced on this 4.0, including:Top end (rocker arms, lifters, push rods, timing set, all seals and gaskets)Bottom end (oil pump, pickup tube, all gaskets and seals)Accessories (alternator, pulleys, belt, radiator fan clutch, battery terminals, battery)Ignition set (spark plugs, cap, coil, rotor, wires, fuel injectors)Cooling system upgraded from the old open system to a 1993+ XJ closed system (including radiator, hoses, fan, thermostat housing, thermostat, gaskets, temperature sensor).Motor mounts were also replaced, along with head gasket, head bolts, IAC valve, and sensors (TPS, MAP, CPS, etc.).Entire exhaust system was replaced, starting with the exhaust manifold and gasket, all pipes, hangers, resonators, catalytic converter, O2 sensors, and muffler. All brakes were replaced, including parking brake cables, master cylinder, all hard and soft lines, calipers/rotors/pads up front, full re-build of rears (shoes, drums, wheel cylinders, hoses, all hardware).Steering components were replaced, including steering stabilizer, track bar, stabilizer bar and links, center link, and all bushings.
There were many additional repairs made as well, too many over the years to remember/list. Additional parts included but not yet installed include: rear differential cover and gasket, Dana Spicer U-Joints for axles and driveshafts, set of 4 Gabriel shocks, tie rod ends, rear track bar bushings, and many others).
This classic Jeep has been a TON of fun to work on and to restore, and it is nearly finished! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to work on the Jeep much since I have recently moved. I don't have the tools or the space to finish restoring it, and quite frankly, I would rather spend the time and money building up my 2022 Jeep Gladiator instead. I want this collector Jeep to go to a good home, someone who respects these classics and who will take the time to finish it the right way.
This collector Wagoneer Limited XJ still needs the following: tires, radio, passenger side floor pan, headliner, and wood grain vinyl trim. In addition, the front seats need new covers or to be re-upholstered, and the Jeep will need new paint. The A/C has not been charged/tested, neither has the Transfer Case / 4 wheel drive.
An exact model, 1987 XJ Wagoneer Limited (with a faulty odometer) just sold on Bring A Trailer for $31,000. This is a great project Jeep that will take less than $10,000 to finish restoring, and can be kept to enjoy or flipped for $10k+ in profit.
