Vehicle Details

This is an original 1979 CJ5 Renegade with the 304 ci engine and 3 speed manual. Color is Ensign Blue. It is a very cool vehicle, but it’s far from perfect and needs some work. It currently starts but will not run for more than a few seconds. I believe it needs new fuel lines. There are a few dings and a dent as pictured and some surface rust, but it’s very solid overall.

I purchased in 2020, and drove it around quite a bit until about 9 months ago. The water pump went out. Finally replaced it and started it. Fuel is not getting to the carb it appears. (Carb was rebuilt in 2020).

I hate to sell it, but I’m not as mechanically inclined as necessary and just don’t have the time she deserves. Odometer doesn’t have the first digit and is likely 112k+ but reads 12,xxx. Speedometer and tach work. Fuel gage does not.

Transfer case work great — goes into 2wd, 4-high, 4-low and neutral without issue. Shifts through the gears and reverse with no issues. Power steering works. Power brakes worked when parked. It stopped ok but likely needs new front brake pads for the front disc brakes. Runs straight down the road with typical CJ handling.

The only major rust area it had was the front floors. Had those professionally replaced. It’s bare metal and there’s a little surface rust on those now. Otherwise the frame and body appear to be solid. Turn signals and brake lights worked a year ago — haven’t check them lately. The headlight switch is missing and I never got around to replacing it.

It is a very original Renegade. Had a roll cage, but had it cut out when the floors were replaced. Windshield is cracked and a little foggy, but it good enough to drive it. Tires are a few years old but hold air.

Comes with an aftermarket denim bikini top. I have a very old and probably unusable kayline denim top. The denim doors are still ok (see pictures). Have a maybe usable kayline black top and doors. Also have an OEM whitco frame and hardware and a set of whitco doors that are tan from a ‘78. Can also throw in a tow bar and tow lights upon request. Can be flat towed a few miles in a pinch.

It’s a great CJ that get looks and comments every time I take it out despite its flaws. But again, it will need some time put into it to make it run like it can. $500 non refundable deposit due when auction ends. I can help load it but otherwise transportation is the responsibility of the buyer. Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any question.
