Vehicle Details

1973 Jeep CJ5 Super Jeep, 51,900 miles, 2nd owner, 304 V8, 3 speed manual. I’ve owned this Jeep since 2015 and it had 34,000 miles on it when I purchased it. A teacher in my hometown bought it new on July 5, 1973 at Hinkle’s Jeep Sales in Pickens, South Carolina. The Jeep has been in northeast Georgia it’s whole life. One of approximately 300 made.

The Super Jeep was an appearance package created by Jeep supposedly due to low supply of aluminum wheels that was included with the Renegade package. This authentic Super Jeep is one of only a few hundred ever built. The Super Jeep came with outrageous graphics, curved chrome front bumper, white soft top, white dash pad, sun visors, Goodyear Suburbanite tires on white steel wheels, and a special seat package.

There were no special serial numbers for the Super Jeep, but the data plate on the firewall identifies them. For special production vehicles like the Super Jeep, the top right corner has a Special Sales Request and Order number which starts with a D. An ordinary production Jeep doesn’t have a number in that spot. The Super Jeep SSR&O number was D5596 and that referred to a special parts list for the build and any special instructions needed.

The Super Jeep package had the choice of two stripe and seat color combinations on six body colors. Red and blue Super Jeep stripes were available over two colors, Jetset Blue Metallic (Jeep Paint Code 492) and Champagne White (432) with seats that were red and white striped vinyl (Trim Code 496). Orange and white stripes came over Butterscotch Gold (490), Daisy Yellow (513), Copper Tan Metallic (517), or Fairway Green Metallic (512), and included cinnamon and white seats (Trim Code 497).
