1985 Jeep Wagoneer Grand Wagoneer

  • Sad but true - time to part with Woodrow, the Red Sled! Woodrow has spent the past 10 years with us out here on the North Fork of Long Island, first as my daily driver and then as my wife's real estate vehicle, as you can see by the decals. Perfect for that - a real head-turner, as I'm sure you know if you're looking at this ad. Let's start with the good, shall we? Just 97,000 miles! Starts and drives great, but sputters on rare occasions - could probably use a carb rebuild or replacement.Interior is in really good shape, even the headliner! The seats might be a little worn in places, but the most comfortable you'll ever sit on, I sometimes refer to Woodrow as my living room on wheels. The rear cargo carpet needed replacing but the rest of the original carpet was in such good shape that I just replaced that with some appropriately funky shag, as you'll see in the pics. All windows work, including the tailgate, some more reluctantly than others - a little spray silicone seems to do the trick. Does Woodrow have any issues? Absolutely, just like any of us who lived through the 1980's. It wasn't all Ferris Bueller's Day Off, I'll have you know. Most notably, he's a little bit rusty - the driver's side quarter panel and rocker panels in particular, and that rust extends to the undercarriage, all of which you'll see from the pics. The floorboards seem solid though, as does most of the car. You'll find an occasional ding here or there, including an interesting one on top of the driver's side fender where a seagull decided to drop a big ol' shell a few years back. That's history right there, but nothing a body guy couldn't take care of if you're not that kind of history buff. The four wheel drive hasn't worked since I bought this car 10 years ago, but you would never know it - powers right through any and everything. The original radio recently decided to stop working, but probably should have been replaced long ago anyway. Bottom line - if you're willing to take on a bit of a fixer-upper I truly believe that Woodrow is worth restoring to his former glory. I know what these Jeeps are worth - and what they aren't (some people really get carried away) - and have taken Woodrow's issues into consideration by setting what I believe to be a very fair, low reserve. Keep in mind, however, that he is 35 years old so is obviously being soldin as-is condition with no warranty and it is the buyer's responsibility to inspect him prior to bidding. Also, I reserve the right to end the auction since Woodrow is also listed for sale locally and, Covid or no Covid, I live in a tourist town and we've got Memorial Day weekend coming up!
