1975 Jeep CJ CJ5

I purchased this immaculate CJ5 back in 1982 from a Cobb county fireman (just outside of Atlanta). So many of these older CJ's have been heavily modified. NOT this one !!Pretty much ALL original except for a few modifications I have made over the years. 8000lb Warn winch was added early on, as well as the side bars to prevent damage to the body. Locking hubs were also added, as well as the American Racing white wagon wheels. All four tires (BF Goodrich All Terrain 31X10.50R15LT) are in great shape and I also have a Goodyear Tracker 11-15LT that serves as a good spare. The spare can be secured to the rear rack with an included mount that attaches with four bolts to the rear swing out jerry can holder.I also added a Mohave heater under the drivers' seat. The CJ's heaters are woefully inadequate and the mohave uses the engines cooling system to circulate hot water through the unit to provide plenty of heat ! There is a three speed switch on the dash to control output. The original seat covers are long gone. I had them recovered in the same pattern and vinyl material as the originals EXCEPT I used an upgraded denser cushioning under the seats . The passenger seat is easily removed and there is a storage compartment under that seat as well as on onboard fire extinguisher. These seats are like BRAND-NEW, mainly because I took the extra sep of adding a set of Bestops seat covers in black. They look great and the seats below are like brand new.The original top/ doors were replaced in the late 80's with a new complete to/doors from Kayline, a Denver company that made incredible replacement tops for Jeep and the Ford Bronco. The black vinyl remains in excellent condition with liberal amounts of 303 protectorant after thorough cleaning. The drivers door has a broken zipper that has been zipped closed and the a zip tie keeps it that way! A good upholstery shop could easily replace the zipper and it would be fully functional. The plastic isinglass is still in great shape as noted in the pictures, and 303 protectorant keeps it that way.I also constructed a console out of two WWII ammo cans that are lockable and have a comfortable armrest on the top. In the rear, I constructed another wooden lockbox that provides more lockable storage for larger items.Mechanically, this CJ w/258 six cylinder is in great condition. Recently changed the plugs and oil (10W30) and had the carburetor mixture and idle adjusted. Fires right up and runs great. I will attempt to post some videos with a cold start up and running. Currently idles at about 700 RPM.
I'm sure I will be updating information over the next ten days and feel free to ask any questions you may have. I will say that this jeep, I named her OLD YLR, is the real deal ! NO power steering, NO power brakes, NO air conditioning ! About as simple as they came, with a tried and proven 258 six cylinder AMC engine. I can not stress enough how original this CJ5 is and I hope will remain that way !
Of course the elephant in the room is RUST, RUST, RUST !! These older CJ's are prone to rust due to their design and purpose. Particularly, the seams and floorboards are the first victims to the rust opportunity. I doubt if you will find a more rust-FREE example in your search for an older CJ5. I will also be posting pictures of the floorboards and other rust prone areas. Stay tuned !!
Will try to respond as quickly as possible to all questions. I'm going to miss the old girl, but I need the garage space !!
