Description:
1981 Jeep CJ
Here's the lowest priced good running Scrambler in the country right now. All original barn find that I've worked on for a couple of years here and there. I get thumbs up and people stopping to tell me stories everywhere I go. It does not smoke. Title in hand. I'm only selling because I have too many other projects and could use these funds to complete some of them. So here's a 100% honest listing.I purchased this truck for $6500 plus shipping sometime back. I've since put about $4k into it, so basically I'm looking to get out what I have into it.
Since purchasing I have put the following into it (I may have forgotten something)- G2 solid rear axles- new correct factory rims- new tires- new shocks- alignment- new bushings throughout steering linkage and rear end- rebuilt rear end- new led spot lights on light bar- rebuilt steering column (took slop out greatly but needs to be adjusted so steering wheel is in the correct position.- new valve cover- rebuilt carb- new brakes all the way around- rebuilt ignition (Jeep cranks very easy)- parking brake- got turn signals and hazard lights working- installed voltage meter and usb/ cig lighter plugs- new battery- new plugs- fixed horn- new window cranks- fixed windows to open and close- new fan clutch- new knobs and cables to control heat/vent system.
Not yet installed parts that will come with Jeep:- door panels- interior door handles- door weather stripping (I think)- I'm not sure what other random small odds and end parts but they will be included)
What it needs (in order of importance in my opinion)- body work. While the frame is very rust free the body will need some panels. Front section is solid. Rockers need to be replaced. Rear quarters need patching or replacement, rear wheel wells, and bed flooring. Bulkhead between cab and bed appears solid but has a small dent. Doors are solid. tailgate is solid but dented from use. Top is in good shape. Still able to throw stuff in the back and take off without any worries.- new pvc valves on top of valve cover. These two parts are probably $10 together and take 2 minutes to change. It's causing some oil to get by. And sit on the valve cover area.- Leak fixed. I don't know if it's a rear main or a transmission leak. It doesn't seem to burn or loose any oil nor does it shift hard so I'm not sure on this one. I just finished a 200 mile trip to the beach and back. Jeep ran fine at 70 mph! To me the leak is more annoying to see than actually a major issue but it does need to be disclosed. (I just took a picture of the leak on the asphalt after letting it park for 3 hours after a 90 mile drive back from the beach. As you can see it's about the diameter of the water bottle right next to it.) May just be something that needs to be tightened up or could be blowing down from the pvc valves on top of the valve covers. Im just not sure yet. I'd start with the pvc valves first though since its the cheapest and easiest.- power steering works fine but it would be a good idea to replace the pump at some point.- main instrument gauge repaired or replaced. Speedo needle moves but is not accurate. Fuel and temp gauges within this cluster to not work. I have not had time to get to this. It could be as simple as dirty wire or loose contact. Separate voltage and oil pressure gauges work fine. Ive used a Speedo phone app and kept up with my mileage until empty so it hasn't been a priority.- I haven't ever used this truck off road (other than driving down a county dirt road). No mudding, rock crawling etc. so I don't know if the 4wd works. It's running so good now I didn't want to jinx it. It may work, May not so keep that in mind.- glass gaskets. They're holding up but will need to be replaced.- seat covers or new seats. They're rough but still ride fine- steering wheel adjusted to the correct position. It's upside down at the moment but works fine.- rhino line interior floors or put carpet in. Floor pans were replaced before I got it but need to have something done to the bare metal.- I do not have a remote for winch so I have not tested it but I have no reason to think it would not work with new electrical cables.
Please keep in mind that this is a 38 year old barn find. It runs great and you can go up to 80 mph on the interstate without killing yourself. It's even been used as a daily driver for about a year and is a currently registered vehicle. However it's going to need someone who can pick up where I left off. This can be a daily driver while you work on it. I'd be happy to show it to anyone that wants to take a look but any inspection must be made PRIOR TO BIDDING/PURCHASE. Do not expect to be the high bidder and then want to inspect itAfter the fact. I have title in hand and vehicle is located in Dothan AL. Car and title will be shipped once payment has cleared. If you have any questions please ask. I'd be happy to take a video of the Jeep running for any serious bidders.
