Restored CJ-7 CJ 7 original classic four wheel drive 4x4
1982 Jeep CJ Renegade
With its sharp exterior looking nice and fresh and an eager V8 standing by under the hood to supply plenty of power, this 1982 Jeep CJ7 Renegade holds the promise of all kinds of fun - both on the asphalt and off. It's a sturdy and able SUV when the call of more rugged terrain beckons, but also offers nice, civilized road manners that make it well-suited for frequent driving. When Jeep introduced the CJ7 a... few years before this '82 debuted, it marked a significant change of direction for the brand. Whereas previous editions of the CJ line were known mostly for their rugged dependability and off-road surefootedness, Jeep made a number of changes to markedly improve the CJ7's suitability for everyday motoring. It's nearly a foot longer than its predecessors for a more civilized ride on the highway and the modified cutouts at its sides can accommodate hinged doors. Sitting at just the right height to provide ample ground clearance without going overboard, this Renegade wears a very clean stock exterior. It's clad in Olive Drab paint with a deep, appealing shine, accented by signature Renegade decals gracing the hood that look nice and sharp. It's a great looking ride when in its open-air configuration and a hard top and new soft doors are included to provide some shelter during less agreeable weather. Take a lap around the car and you'll notice that the fender flares - so often the first area to show signs of both age or abuse - are in good shape, and the paint-matched bumpers in front and back are level and unblemished. Finishing off the look is a great Army-style decal kit and a swing-away full-size spare out back. The rugged interior sticks to a durable set-up that matches the exterior, and the condition of the spray-in bed-liner covered floors and painted dashboard suggest that this Jeep has led a good life and hasn't been abused or neglected since the restoration. High-back bucket seats are comfortable enough for bouncing around off-road, and the floor has been protected with heavy-duty mats atop the bed-liner pans, a smart upgrade and probably one that makes a lot of sense in a vehicle designed to play in the mud. All the original gauges and switches are still in their original positions, and while this one isn't long on options and upgrades (as is the case with most Cjs of the era), it gets the basics right, with a fat Jeep steering wheel mounted to a tilt column, 5-speed manual transmission, JVC AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo, and a black grab bar for the passenger (believe me, if you're doing it right, you're gonna need it). The back seat is comfortably finished in pleated black vinyl and the padding on the roll bar is neatly fitted, so it's clean and orderly. This Jeep also includes a removable hardtop and new soft doors, so it's a great year-round cruiser that's great for any occasion. Man, what a dialed-in 4x4! AMC's 258 cubic inch inline-six still runs beautifully and should continue to do so for many years if you take care of it properly. Torquey and robust and bored .040 over to a 264 displacement during the rebuild, this is the engine you want pulling through the worst slop Mother Nature can throw at you. Virtually bulletproof, it also has the low-end torque you need and gentle throttle tip-in on the carburetor and Clifford intake makes it easy to feel your way through the slippery stuff. The Tremec 5-speed manual feeds the stock 2-speed transfer case and seriously beefy axles at both ends, with the front end being fitted with manual locking hubs. Tall gears and low range give it rock-crawling stability, but thanks to the oversized tires, it can cruise relatively easily at highway speeds in high range. The suspension also features newer springs and a clear-most-anything ride height, so it's has exactly the right attitude and functionality without being tall and tippy on the streets. Paint-matched 15-inch wagon wheels look wonderful and wear beefy 31x10.5x15 Kumho All-Terrain radials that are ready to get dirty. With chiseled good looks and plenty of performance, this awesome CJ is a lot of fun, both on and off road. Documented with a bunch of build receipts and maintenance records, this turn-key Jeep is ready to hit the streets and/or the trails. Call today!
