1979 Jeep CJ renegade

This 1979 Jeep CJ-5 was reportedly purchased new in Nevada and acquired there in 2013 by the previous owner, who stored it on a military base in California. I purchased the truck in 2018, brought it toNew Jersey, and commissioned a frame on restoration that included paint and body work as well as new engine mounts, brakes, suspension, ignition, carburetor, clutch, and more (see build sheet). Power comes from a 4.2L inline-six mated to a T18 4-speed manual transmission and a dana 20 transfer case with 89,000 ORIGINAL miles
The exterior factory body was stripped and refinished in Russet Metallic (9C) to address fading of old paint, yellow and orange Renegade decals were applied back to a factory look. The work was performed in 2018 by Proline Auto Body of Pine Brook, New Jersey.
Goodyear Wrangler Radial tires are mounted on factory white 15″ wheels that were sandblasted, powder coated, and refinished with an epoxy coating and red pinstripes. Drilled and slotted brake rotors are installed at the front along with ceramic brake pads and new lines. During the refurbishment, the braking system was converted from manual to power. The rear drum brakes feature new shoes, hardware and a new parking brake cable.
The floors were stripped, epoxy primed, and covered with spray-in bedliner. New Bestop upholstery was fitted, and black rubber floor mats are installed front and rear.
New manual steering components include tie rod ends, and the U joints were checked and greased. The suspension has new shocks at all four corners as well as new leaf spring and shackle bushings (see build sheet for more details)
