1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer for saleVery solid daily driver that looks great. It is not perfect, but it is all very solid and rust free. I get comments, questions and thumbs-up everywhere I go with this Grand Wagoneer. My boys and all their friends love heading to our boy scout campouts in this Jeep. It took me months to find this Jeep - Wagoneers this clean are very hard to find in this part of the country. I bought with the intention of restoring the interior and exterior. Then I became enamored with a '77 Wagoneer and wife insists there isn't enough room in the driveway (or money) for both, so I had to choose. This 87 runs nice, rides nice, tows great and most everything in the interior works well (see notes at bottom).

This was originally a California car and it shows. It came to the east coast in 2006 and has only gained about 16k miles since then (11 years). I have a CarFax report to verify this. Body is 100% solid. All the sheet metal is rust free and only a few minor spots of very light surface rust on the frame. No rust on firewall or inner fenders in engine compartment. Most of the frame and underbody still has the anti-corrosion coating. In the few places where that is peeling off the frame, the paint is still there underneath.

Mechanically Solid driverThe original AMC 360 V8 motor has 55k miles on a rebuild and runs well. I've been driving it almost daily and it always starts. A/C blows cold. All the windows go up and down. 30x9.5 tires only have a few thousand miles on them. The Quadratrac 4WD works great. I've taken this on multiple hundred-mile-plus trips without any problems.

The body and mechanicals on this Jeep are so good, I'm not afraid to reveal the flaws. We both know that 30 year old vehicles are never perfect...so here is the list of things I haven't fixed yet:
- Oil pressure sending unit has a bad connection so the gauge always reads max pressure
- Cargo area light switch is broken
- Passenger area light cover falls off occasionally
- Opening the front doors does not turn on interior lights (rear doors do)
- Front passenger side running light/signal does not work. Need to replace socket.
- Power mirror motors both work, but the control switch is inoperative.
- Drivers door arm rest has a broken screw mount...so it is loose and sags
- Ash tray is missing. Still tracking down a replacement...
- Fog lights are missing
- I have installed a new bluetooth unit to put in, but 3 of the 4 speakers have very little sound coming from them.
- One of the headlight adjusters is broken. I replaced temporarily with a bolt, which allowed me to complete the install and aim the new LED headlights correctly. But future vertical adjustments on that light will take about 10 minutes, instead of just a few seconds (horizontal adjuster is ok).
- When sitting, there is a gas smell that I haven't yet tracked down. I think it is around the new fuel pump connections. The leak isn't enough to be visible.
- The wood (vinyl) siding has become brittle and in one spot on the tailgate it has shredded, revealing a hole in the sheet metal (not a rust hole. Very precise, but I don't know what the hole is for. It appears to have been there when the car was built)
- The rear cargo area carpet and rails are missing. The remaining carpet is solid, but shows wear and stains. A complete new set of carpet is $375.
- The front seats have wear and tear hidden under the covers, some of which the previous owner covered with duct tape. The passenger seat and center may be repairable, but the drivers seat probably needs to be recovered.
- The drivers side rear window is binding a little (in the channel?) and goes up slowly. If you put it all the way down, it may not go up. Always goes up from halfway down.
- Front windows (driver and passenger) tend to come loose from the support beam on the bottom channel that supports them. As a result, when the motor pulls the channel down, sometimes the window does not go down with it. A light push on the window puts it down. They always go back up with no issues. There are (I've heard) metal clips that hold the window glass in the channel. I've been told these need to be re-attached or possibly replaced.
