Description:

1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1.5 Roadster

1968 E-Type OTS Roadster Project – FOR SALE!

Here’s another GREAT E-Type project we’ve found – and it’s also another one that is WELL underway! The restoration has been started, and most of the metalwork and bodywork is complete!

This is a 1968 Series 1.5, 4.2-liter E-Type Roadster – or “Open Two-Seater” (OTS). This E-Type restoration project is complete, numbers-matching, and does not appear to have suffered any major collisions. It was originally Opalescent Silver Grey with a Black interior. The metalwork is completed, and only the final bodywork and finish paint remains to be applied.

The car still retains it’s original 4.2-liter engine – which did run when the car was disassembled for paint and bodywork several years ago. It also has its original 4-speed full-synchro gearbox – and the car was able to be driven around as well at that time.

Provenance –

This E-Type is all numbers matching – the current owner acquired a Heritage Certificate from Jaguar that confirms the numbers. The engine block and gearbox are both stamped with the correct number matching the Heritage Certificate. We do have a clear US title, and will also provide a bill of sale, as well as the Heritage Certificate itself – shown below.

History –

This E-Type has been under the same ownership for the past 7 years – before that it spent much of its life in Colorado, where the dry climate and high-altitude are kind to an E-Type’s body shell. The current owner purchased the car in 2015 in this condition. Due to starting a family at the same time, he was not able to get the restoration underway, and with 3 young children now, has realized that it will be a LONG time before he can devote any time to the car.

Body Shell and Bonnet –

The car has never suffered any major collisions, and the body shell is straight and solid. At the time of disassembly for bodywork, no major rust was found - only a few minor areas in the floor and these were repaired before the floor was seam sealed and prepared for re-assembly.

Take a look at the bonnet – it is in great shape! The shape of the mouth and the entire bonnet overall is excellent. The bonnet did have the typical rust in the hinge plates and headlamp diaphragm panels, and that has been repaired. The current owner has indicated that the repairs are solid and strong, but that they are cosmetically lacking when viewed from the inside and could be improved.
Drivetrain & Running Gear –

The previous owner was able to start and drive the car around before disassembling the car for the bodywork. The current owner has confirmed that the engine does still turn free. While the engine was out, it was cleaned and the cam cover gaskets, etc. were replaced to freshen things up. The engine and gearbox were then re-installed.

Additional Parts –

The car is complete, and all components that are not currently assembled onto the car will be included with the car and carefully packed inside for shipping. There are dozens of photos on our website that show the original parts that are included with the project. Here is a link to the advertisement on our website:

Interior –

Most of the original interior is still included with the car, and the original leather seats are in good enough condition to have their patina preserved for an original, well-worn finish – OR a new interior kit could be purchased and installed. All of the gauges and switches are original to this car, and are in very good condition.

Location & Shipping –

This E-Type is located at the current owner’s home in Ohio, USA. We have worked with Schumacher Logistics, CFR Rinkens, Direct Express (and many others…) in the past to ship cars to the UK, Europe, and Australia with good results, and I am sure that they can work out the transportation for you if you are an overseas buyer. We have sold many E-Types over the years, and are familiar with the process of shipping them overseas.

Conclusion –

This is a GREAT E-Type project that could be completed in a very reasonable amount of time – the metalwork is completed, and that is the biggest hurdle in an E-Type restoration! It's a great start to a fun restoration project that will result in a fabulous car - one that is a blast to drive - AND that continues to appreciate in value!

So stop dreaming and get to work – grab this one, finish the restoration – which is WELL underway, and start LIVING your E-Type dream! But if you are interested, DON’T WAIT – as I’ve said many times, they go FAST!

Jaguar E-Type Project Cars and Parts - Bought and Sold!
If you are looking for an E-Type project to restore, your search may be over!

At Monocoque Metalworks, we often find GOOD E-Type projects - and then find them GOOD homes with GOOD people! In fact, ALL of our past buyers AND sellers have remained close friends! THEN, we stick with you as a partner in the restoration, providing technical support throughout the duration of your project!
•E-Type Project Cars FOR SALE!- Our interaction with countless E-Type owners, restorers, and shops and suppliers puts us in touch with many orphaned and incomplete project cars. We rescue these E-Types from being parted out or scrapped, and bring them back to our warehouse, where they are combined with parts and pieces from our large stock of original parts to be a complete project car - ready for a new home!
•Our E-Type Projects are RESTORABLE!- Too often, we see E-type projects being offered that are, quite literally, unrestorable… Many times, cars that have been burned, wrecked, or are rotted beyond the point that is economically feasible to repair are sold to an overly optimistic restorer, only to have their dreams (and their bank account) shattered - when they find out they have purchased little more than a title… Here, we make sure you KNOW what you are getting - AND what you are GETTING INTO!
•Our E-Type Projects are COMPLETE and CORRECT!- Like everything else we do, rescuing orphaned E-Types is a labor of love, NOT a "get rich quick scheme"… Therefore, we work hard to make sure our project cars have the proper pieces for their Year, Series, and Model. We also pull together a project for you that is as complete as possible, but also DON'T "pad" the project with worn out, unrestorable parts that should always be replaced, like radiators, exhaust systems, etc. In addition, we serve as an invaluable resourcethroughout the build, helping you decide WHAT pieces to purchase new, and WHERE to source them!
•Our E-Type Projects CAN BE created to suit YOUR vision!- While we try to make all parts and pieces correct for each project, we can also tailor the project to suit your needs. For example, if you are building a high-performance driver, we can assemble your package with the better-performing Series 2 brakes, etc. Building an all-out racer?.. No problem! - we'll sell you a project that has justwhat you need for that and nothing more - and adjust the price accordingly!
•E-Type Parts and Pieces for sale!- As our business has grown over the years, so has our stock of original E-Type "used" parts. A lifetime of dragging home every E-Type and E-Type part I could find has left us with a warehouse full of original parts that is bursting at the seams! Most of these pieces will be used to complete the partial and orphaned E-Types mentioned above, but others are available to complete YOUR E-Type!
•E-Type Project Cars and Parts - WANTED!- If you have an orphaned E-Type project car, remains of a past Parts Car, extra spares left over from your restoration, or even a running & driving E-Type that needs a new, GOOD home - give me a call! Everything that gets dragged back here is stored indoors until it finds a new home - ON AN E-TYPE - that makes it ONTO THE ROAD! Take a look at some of our blog stories about the places we go and the people we meet in our search - then give us a call. I GUARANTEE you'll be pleasantly surprised by the honesty, sincerity, and ENTHUSIASM we put into everything we do! - Chuck Hadley
