1972 Jaguar E-Type

This auction is for a 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 2+2 Coupe.

Done in original Old English White with Red/Mulberry interior, this car is powered by a Jaguar V12 engine matched to it's original 4 speed manual transmission.

This big cat comes with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. Manufactured in the UK in February 1972 it was imported into the USA by British Leyland in March 1972.

The car is rust free and solid. There are a few (very few) minor paint imperfections, but it presents well and looks beautiful. The chrome is bright and clear. The windows and glass look to be original, but I can't be certain.

The original leather seats have a distinguished look with no obvious signs of wear and are in good condition.

The interior surfaces and carpeting has recently been replaced with Wilton Wool carpets and vinyl from the UK. At that time additional sound proofing was also added.

The radio has been replaced with a Retro-Sound look-alike, but the original radio is included if you want to put it back into place.

New seat belts were installed as well, but again, the original belts and re-tractors are included if you want to refurbish them and reinstall.

This E-Type was fully serviced in August of 2019. This included oil change, new plugs, wiring, distributor cap, exhaust manifold gaskets.

The carburetors were tuned and dialed in June of 2019. A new Bosch battery was also added in August.

The wipers, headlamps, map light, interior light, turn signals, flashers, heater/fan all work.

The dash and instrument lights all work and have been upgraded to LED.

The ignition buzzer and the seat belt buzzer do not work. They are not hooked up and that's fine with me. I don't know if they are operational, but consider them non-working.

In August, as part of the service, the factory AC was completely reworked and charged. It blows strong and icy cold.

The rear window defrosting heater is not hooked up. The previous owner lived in Palm Springs and wired the rear window defroster switch to the engine auxiliary fan. This allows you to turn the engine fan on as desired. I live in a northern climate and haven't seen ANY heating or cooling problems, but having been to Palm Springs, I can see why the PO wanted this feature. I like this option and have kept it in place. It looks like a simple matter to hook the defroster up at the fuse box if you'd prefer.

The wire wheels look terrific and the Dunlop tires are practically new, including the spare!

It takes a while from a cold start to get the V12 beast up to temp, but once there, the engine runs great and purrs and growls as it should.

There's a bit of 'blue smoke' when the car starts after sitting for awhile, but it quickly dissipates. I've been told by two Jag mechanics this is not a cause for alarm and normal for a car of this age. It's nothing I'm worried about, but I want to be completely transparent and up front. When last serviced a compression check was done on all 12 cylinders and all came back strong and well within acceptable limits.

The car drives beautifully and the engine pulls strong. The 4 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly, up and down. It's always fun to watch the heads of other drivers or pedestrians swivel when this car drives by. It is striking to look at and always attracts attention.

The owners manual, jack set, spare wheel and tire, two sets of keys and some miscellaneous other parts are also included.
