Description:
1994 Jaguar XJS
I've owned this gem for eight years, and it's been the most reliable and inexpensive car to operate I've had - besides being incredibly fun to drive. Technically it has a salvage title because it was flooded to about the bottom of the seats a few years ago. I bought it from a friend who restores high-end imports for a living, so it was done right. It has never been wrecked or had any reportable damage. It comes with all the luxury accessories you'd expect in a Jaguar, including an upgraded sound system with MP3 player, sunroof and genuine Jaguar-badged 72-spoke Dayton wire wheels. Front leather, carpets and walnut veneers were replaced two years ago. I also overhauled the transmission, put in a new overhauled motor and a new radiator. The motor is the classic Jaguar straight-six and is as smooth and responsive as you will ever find. The harder you drive this car, the smoother she runs. There is only one flaw in the paint, which is a small blistered patch above the right front wheel that would need a little sanding and touchup (see pictures).
So why am I selling it? I live in the boonies of Arkansas and am 75 miles from a mechanic who isn't afraid to open the hood. As much as I have resisted admitting it, it's just not practical for my only car. Even though it's in very good shape overall, it is getting to the age when it needs more TLC than I can manage.
Now the "but" that will save you a few thousand dollars. About a year ago, it developed a gremlin in the transmission electricals and shifts rough out of first until the trans is warmed up to highway speeds. Everything mechanical is either new or verified working, so I'm cleaning contacts and replacing relays. An actual Jaguar mechanic could probably fix it in a day, but there's only one ex-dealer mechanic in Arkansas - who still charges dealer rates. If you have one you trust, or even better enjoy working on it yourself, you'll have no problems.
Fully equipped, with less than 63,000 miles and overall about 95% perfect, this car would go for $15,000 and up, and prices have been rising noticeably the past year or two. Opening bid is only $9,500 which will cover a more practical car for me and give you one hell of a bargain on a genuine classic dream car.
Any questions, feel free - but move quickly. Boy toys like this are getting hard to find at any price. My baby deserves a good home where she'll be appreciated for the classic she is.
