1971 Jaguar XJ6 Ascot Fawn
1971 Jaguar XJ6
Here is a fully ready to use XJ6 survivor. It drives nicely without issues. No reserve.
I've known this car since the early 1980's. I met the then-owner at our Ontario Jaguar Owners' Club meeting. He had bought the car with about 80,000 miles, when it was sold due to an engine problem, which turned out to be the cracks between the cylinder bores. He set about to restore the car, and spent years gathering NOS parts, sourcing Euro-spec parts, and disassembling the front end of the car. It remained in his heated garage until I bought it in 2008 after he had given up.I've owned several S1's, do most of my own work, and took up the challenge.
A S3 engine professionally rebuilt was sourced, and restoration/reassembly started. Euro twin SU intake with AED was fitted. The front suspension was totally rebuilt with all new parts, including NOS calipers.7 inch outer headlamps were fitted, along with NOS indicator lamps, and side markers, side view mirror.
The Ascot Fawn paint was redone about 1980, and is in fair condition. There's bubbling on the boot lid, some orange peel, about 15 scratches and chips that have been touched in. The rear valance has peeling filler, and dents. The RH sill has a dent. All the panels are original, and I believe there have been no accidents. The body is quite rust free.
The sun roof was fitted at the dealer I'm told. It works, but the seal could not be trusted as I do not always have indoor storage. I filled the gap with plasticean which can be easily removed without messy residue. There are roof drains fitted, and the installation seems good quality.
The heater core leaks, and so the hoses have been bypassed. As a summer car, this was never an issue.Blowers work fine. The A/C was never hooked up, but all components are there.
The leather was soft and there were no tears, so I re-dyed them the original Biscuit using Leatherique products.
The Michelin tires are a matched set and have a lot of tread left.
Both fuel tanks and new pumps work.
Both front the rear screen seals need to be replaced.
The exhaust system is sound. The front downpipe is stainless because in my experience the flexible portion rusts out fast in mild steel. New battery just installed.
A note for USA buyers: If you accompany the car across the border there are no problems or delays. If you have it shipped, then a broker is required. If you are considering a shipper, TFX International is near me, and very professional. Go to their website, click on "Get a free quote", enter my postal code: L0S1J0, and the destination.
