1971 Jaguar XJ6 *Rust Free~Unmolested*

Thisauction is for a very unique 1971 Jaguar Series 1 XJ6. It was ordered by its 1st owner in 1969 while on vacation in London. It comes with every receipt, order form, original advertising, repair order, heritage certificate, and even the bill of lading from the “good Steamship Silverman” that transported the car to the US! The documentation of this car from the day it was ordered throughout its first 45 years of ownership is quite amazing. The current 2nd owner took excellent care of the car since its acquisition. Improving it immensely with new subframe mounts, new cooling hoses, two rebuilt fuel gauge sender units, and having the A/C serviced and recharged, rotors serviced, handbrake adjusted, new handbrake pads, and new battery installed. It has also been fitted with the highly desirable electronic ignition unit for more reliability.

This XJ6 is still the original color scheme as delivered from England, being Regency Red with Navy interior. It has recently undergone an expensive paint job where it was taken down to the bare metal and repainted in its original color, all seals etc replaced at that time. The wheels have also been repainted and look excellent. This Jaguar has the English spec headlight configuration and is without the US spec side markers which really gives it a clean look. It was also ordered with an AM FM Phillips radio that it still retains (functions perfectly) and air conditioning along with hand operated windows, not electric, which incidentally work very well.

The car runs exceptionally well having only covered 111K miles since new. The transmission, brakes suspension, steering all feel excellent and it shows no sign of overheating. It is just a lovely example of a beautiful classic, and cars like this are becoming increasingly hard to find.

It has always been garaged and well looked after and does not look like ever having been in a serious collision or driven in any harsh conditions. Underneath the floors are in pristine condition, no jack marks or the slightest indication of rust. It has a clear title and is currently registered in Nevada. All areas inside the fenders, front and back, where you’d expect to find the odd ripple or incorrect hardware are amazingly straight and correct. Even the front valence is in very good shape. The panels are straight, no dents, and the gaps are good. The glass is excellent and the windshield and rear glass rubber seals have been replaced and look great. The chrome trim is complete and in extremely good shape all round. This Jaguar sits on four Hercules all season tires and includes a spare in the trunk, all with their original Jaguar crested hub caps.

The interior still has that classic Jaguar smell. The wooden dash is exceptional and the door panels are original and in very good shape. The door seals are in great condition as well. The seats have been nicely reupholstered in leather some years ago and they look very close to original. The headliner has been replaced and looks excellent. The drivers’ side carpet could use replacing, but otherwise all the interior carpeting is complete and tidy.

In the trunk is a spare tire, jack and original bag for the handle. The sound insulation under the lid is still in perfect condition, something rarely seen. Under the hood all looks original and complete and it has very little in the way of leaks.

The wonderful straight six engine starts easily from cold and pulls smoothly and powerfully, with no unwanted noise or any sign of smoke and almost silent in operation. It has good oil pressure and the gauges all work including the clock and trip function on the Speedo. The electrical items all seem to function properly and the indicators even self-cancel. The transmission shifts smoothly and there is no sign of slipping or other issues. The steering is smooth, light but precise. The brakes feel good, and it pulls up nice and straight without any noise or fuss. Overall the car drives very well.

Electrically most things seem to be working, including running lights, High/low beams, panel, interior lights, wipers, heater fan and indicators, the windshield washers probably need fluid. The map light does not illuminate, could be a fuse. Both fuel tanks work and the gauges read correctly. The wiring does not seem to have been modified or repaired and is extremely original and correct.

To recap this car is an amazing time capsule that is fully documented with a very interesting history. It is a sharp looking, award winning, genuinely unmolested car that drives like a charm. It comes complete with all supporting documents and every invoice for all work performed on it. Due to its lack of rust, straight body and originality it will appreciate well if it is looked after and driven as is. As always, I would recommend driving this car if at all possible, please call (310)833-1525 for an appointment. Bid with confidence, the car will not disappoint. I have sold many classic British cars on e-bay with all buyers leavingexcellent feedback.
