1965 Jaguar E-Type 2 place coupe
We have available for sale and restoration an incredible1966 Series 1 E-Type Jaguar 2 place coupe. It is a 4.2 litre with full synchromesh four speed. Probably the most attractive two place closed production car from the era. The heritage report from Jaguar showing the car was completed December 1965 and was painted at the factory in Opalescent Dark Green with a black interior. A rare and stunning color that is a very fine metallic green. We have that we never seen this color on an early E-Type.
This is a numbers matching car and retainsmost of its original paint as it was parked inside in 1971. There is an old Safeway receipt and a parking ticket in the console from 1971. The original Washington plates are expired then too.
This E-type has been stored inside unused and indicates38,360 miles onthe odometer. The low miles are confirmed by the current owner who is the daughter of the man thatpurchased it from the original owner in 1968. Herfather unfortunately passed away in 1981. The car remained in storage with the family to this day, but must be sold due to pending medical bills preventing any restoration work on the car.
This is an amazing example and has not been dismantled or modified. It serves as an excellent reference for how E-types were originally assembled and retains nearly every original componentdown to the hoses and hose clamps. The only items replaced from new appear to be the neat NAPA branded battery, and tires. This would be an exceptional car to resurrect with an eye on preservation of the interior.
Underneath, there are no signs of destructive corrosion. Floors appear solid and not damaged from
jacking. The bottom of the rockers do have paint missing and surface corrosion. It does not appear to penetrate through the metal except for one very small area on the driver side where the rocker meets the bottom pan. The exhaust system had rotted and broken at the flex joint and was removed it to make the car easier to move.
The interior is really in exceptional condition. Because it was stored indoors, the leather and materials have survived quite well and presents nicely. The rear deck panels have virtually no flaws. If touched up and treated it would look near new. Carpets on the passenger and driver foot wells have gone missing, they were removed due to a dairy product spill during a father daughter trip and have since been lost.
The paint is still glossy. It has lots of chips scratches and dings from things being near it or put on during its 46 years of storage. There is a small compression dent on the front left wing that might be removable by a paintless dent removal guy as there are no creases. Body gaps are excellent while paint is far from perfect,
it seems to be original. We found signs that the rear area between the bumpers has had some minor repair and been resprayed. This coincides with the daughter memory of a minor parking lot dent to the rear. It does not affect the rear hatch alignment. This small area is the only place where we can find signs of overspray on the original rubber seals. It seems match the original paint and color, so worth preserving.
Mechanically, the car has suffered some from sitting like a lot of them do. The clutch is stuck compressed, so I assume some stepped on the clutch years ago and the hydraulic cylinder stuck in the on position. We don't know about the condition of the transmission, but with the low mileage it should be fine. Unfortunately the engine is firmly stuck. We soaked it but it will not move, so the engine will need to be opened up and rebuilt. Yes the cylinder head and block numbers match the original data tag fitted to the car. The data plate has never been removed from the car. The engine bay is complete and accurate right down to the yellow grease pencil number written on the firewall during assembly line travels. It has not
been modified and all subframes are straight with only some jacking damage to front center that all E-Types suffer due to design. Certainly the entire fuel system will need to be gone through as well as the entire brake system and hydraulics, as both have suffered from sitting.
Rare that such an awesome low miles two ownerE-type appears on the open market and this would make an excellent preservation. Re-establish the mechanicals and it's a viable car. This car is very desirable and could be an easy, but labor intensive resurrection. It would be suited to the patient home restorer or could be a concours car with full restoration.
