1990 Jaguar XJ-S V-12 Convertible – excellent condition! 67K MILES XJS
1990 Jaguar XJS Connolly Leather
Up for your consideration is my English 1990 Jaguar XJ-S 12 cylinder. I am relocating to New York and will not need any of my cars.
If you are familiar with this model then you know that the last two years of this English model had reached its perfect development in body style and reliability, especially after it moved away from the Lucas electrical system over to Marelli. Some people may argue that the Ford XJS was more reliable but honestly, all they did was streamline the car and the beautiful contour lines of the body and the elegance of the interior were washed out. I’m sure the original founder Sir William Lyons would have been disappointed with Ford’s idea of re-engineering. Why am I telling you all this? Because I’m a Jag-head and have owned (2) XJ-S’ (New York & CA) and (1) XJ6 from the English period so feel free to ask me any questions.
Now onto this 1990 Jaguar XJ-S V12 I am listing.

This car has always been garaged and super well maintained. On an average only 2500 miles were put on this car per year. This has always been a second car for weekend road trips. NO accidents, no major problems have existed with this car. I spent many hours in the beginning buying books and learning about this model and found a manual by Kirby Palm to be invaluable in troubleshooting minor glitches or maintenance issues.

This car was pretty much maintenance free for 57,000. Granted after 24-26 years the above work was needed to maintain the car and to keep it mechanically sound. The engine is still young and strong, the tires and brake system are brand new, and the transmission is still flawless.
The original paint looks beautiful with just a few light dings but barely noticeable. (I always spent good money in parking the car in garages and away from other cars as much as possible).
The interior is beautiful and I always applied “Connolly Care Leather Conditioner” to keep it looking soft. I will confess that there are two small cigarette burns from an old girlfriend (I do not smoke) that ended our relationship quickly. In the beginning when it happened years ago I was compelled to replace it but then I said it’s not so obvious but me being meticulous and anal so I left them.
THINGS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED:
-Rag Top needs to be replaced after 26 years the cloth just dries out and is starting to fray. Rag Tops in general are always hard to maintain especially after so many years of hot & cold weather. In LA I found some very good specialists and the cost is around $1000.-$1200. depending on who you go to. If you know how to install a new top and have time you can buy it for around $400.00.
-Minor dent in driver-side back Chrome Bumper Blade (See picture) You have to look hard to see it but it’s there and as an owner it stands out to me but not other people. They come up on eBay for around $50.00-$100.00 but you can get a clean one inexpensively if you wait long enough.
-Lastly, if you need AC then that needs to be fixed. Once it stopped working I never got it fixed because it’s an open top and most XJ-S’ have that issue so it’s not uncommon.
Well that’s the car in a nutshell. It’s beautiful, it’s a classic, its got low miles, and it will be missed.
Please email any questions and I will be happy to talk to you via email or phone.
