1957 Jaguar XK

When Sir William Lyons founded the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922, e never imagined the success that the small company would have. As a builder of motorcycle side cars, motorcar was probably the furthest thing from his mind. In 1935, he company name was changed to SS and several sports cars called the SS 90 and SS 100 were built. The SS name was dropped after World War II and the company then became known as Jaguar. A new twin cam six also appeared after the war and this spectacular engine made Jaguar a stellar performer. Jaguar’s competition efforts were nothing short of miraculous as they scored wins in the 1951, 953, 955, 956, nd 1957 Le Mans races. Clearly, aguar had solidified itself as a feared competitor on the track; a foundation it continues to this very day. In the fall of 1957, aguar introduced the XK150 as a competitor for the Mercedes Benz 300SL and the BMW 507. The XK150 was the third in the XK series and as such it was a highly refined design in both appearance and mechanics. The XK150 featured a one-piece windshield replacing the 120 and 140’s split window. The bulkhead was also moved back four-inches on the XK150 making for an extended hood line. The dashboard was also now nicely trimmed in leather instead of the Walnut used on the 140. Overall, he Jaguar XK150 was a highly refined sports car that gave stellar performance in a beautiful package.

Offered here is an outstanding example of the Jaguar heritage, 1958 XK150 finished in Old English White. There’s just something special about a British sports car and this 150 proves it. Its beautifully sculptured lines literally define style and this one is also equipped with wire wheels. The interior features the classic sports car lay out with a black interior and all gauges clean, lear, nd easy to read. Power for this XK150 comes from a retrofitted 3.4 liter twin cam six that was one of Jaguar’s best engines. The engine is not original to the car, ut is of thr correct type for a 150. This engine is neat and tidy and this is a car that runs as well as it looks. Most impressive is the signature badge on the rear deck that proudly proclaims Jaguar’s victories at Le Mans. This Jaguar wears an older restoration that has held up well and still looks presentable.

Jaguar’s family of fine XK cars are legendary both on and off the track. This XK150 is a great car for the open road or the show field, ut whether displaying or driving it’s a car that does not disappoint and will be a fine addition to any collection.
